When ARR comes out, we will still be on the same servers. "shut down" != destroyed.

When ARR comes out, and you log in to the game, your character will still be on a server called Gungnir, along with all the other people who also had characters on that server.

all NA linkshells will plan ahead and move to another server of their choice thats based in NA.

That's a bold assumption. I think most current players will stay on their current server. It's a lot easier than moving.

Just because you have the choice to play on one server does not mean you should do so if you want to enjoy the game.

You can enjoy the game on any server. It's up to you whether you want to move or not. I don't think most people will unless forced to.

Considering how many people are allready Hi-Fiving eachother about NA servers I don't think it's a very "Bold" assumption to assume people generally want to segregate themselves regardless of the options.

I dont think its too bold to suggest that a linkshell that hopes to do the best at content would play on a server where they are handicapped by even small latency.

I didn't find this information. There is simply no evidence to the contrary. They havent' said anything about renaming servers or forcing us all to choose new ones (They've already changed the server names twice and nobody really seemed to like it). Unless they say something like this, I see no reason to believe that whichever players are on your current server, you will still be with those players come ARR launch unless they are given the oppertunity to transfer off and choose to do so.

Even if this applies only to new players, I'm sure current players will be given the opportunity to move to a north american, european or japanese based data zone. Which every serious end game linkshell will do.

Here is what I feel Personally about Multi-Data Centers:

1) Regional Servers are ment for those who want to experience littlest lag possible.

2) If Lag isn't much of an issue on any level then you don't have to "Segregate" yourself, as long as your comrades understand that.

3) If lag shows to be an issue, this is where regional Servers "Actually" play their part ( Push comes to shove)

4) if they see that everyone is staying on Japanese Server ( because the lag is not really an issue) then they can consider shutting them down, till a later date when they could actually use them.

Names will stay the same.. but Balmung could be labeled as a NA Server and Masamune could be named a EU Server and so forth so, if that's the case you will need to base decisions on if you want a JP Server or not. ( There is no Evidence of this mind you, but if that's indeed the case, its good to be prepared )

I think this is the worst decision ever! I made a lot of Jap friends, Us frinds adn Eu friends and i'm very glad to play with them. This really makes me sad.
I really enjoyed the ffxi community and the mix of different culture, and after the quit from ffxi and join in this new big adventure called FFXIV i thought that it was great makes new friends from all the country in the world, meet again some friends of ffxi etc.. so please think about it. It's really the best solution for eliminate the big MOB called LAG of 0.1 sec or 0.3 sec ??
Don't makes me choise a language server, i'm not on WoW for this reason !
