Thank you! As much as I will miss my friends dearly, I'd like a server located in my region.
This thread is so negative~ I understand many are upset of the news and have every right to be, but at least I'll post saying I'm happy about regional servers and thank the dev team for giving an option to those who asked for a remedy of the lag. (And don't get me wrong I'll miss my friends but I will most defiantly choose a lower ping if given the option! *'-')b especially with PvP on the way~)
Cheers~

The hilarity of this shitstorm is that it's pointless.
They aren't region locked. You may choose any server you want. If servers being a hodgepodge of nationalities is such a unifying factor of the FF MMO experience, then the supposed community will make it happen regardless.
SE hasn't done anything other than give players a choice.
US player here. I just want to post to show my support for the regional servers. I am very happy to hear about this change. I can't want to move to a NA server and have less lag and the ability to play with people who almost all speak English. To me this will make the game much more fun and playable. I have a hard time getting anything done in the current game due to lack of players to do stuff with.
To all the naysayers and complainers, SE is still letting people pick any regions servers they want to play on so you and your friends can decide ahead of time where you want to go.

If only it was that simple right, I'm sure most of my NA friends will leave, Or maybe i should ask my whole NA LS, of 30ppl to stay on the server because i have JP and FR friends on it. Not even sure what my EU friends will do, since their ls was made up of both en, fr and German players. Like i said in a previous post, its not like my friends only play with me, they have other friends and other LS they play with, I can't selfishly ask them to prioritize me
I can't believe this. I really can't. I don't even feel like doing my regular activities in game right now.
I'm sure the team would've known the consequences of this decision. How could they not?
We have not been playing this game for the sole hope that ARR would be a good game. When the servers were empty and the content awful we kept each other's hopes alive with the friends we've made. From around the world and from many different background we entertained each other, educated each other and made friendships with like minded people across the world.
There has to be a way to fix the lag and retain one of the key features of XIV in ARR. I just can't fathom breaking up the community like this.
Have you been paying close atention to Yoshida's statements? Because he has used these exact terms when bringing up some new content that we were used to having on other FFs, simply because they were there. You don't have to defend against anything, and I have never asked you to do it. You should have read it as if you were Yoshida, the game director.Wow, really? Really?
And just who would I have to defend it against? You?
Please realize what an appeal to tradition is about, and I'll tell you that even if someone complains about implementing a classical FF staple, I would never resort to a "well because we've always had chocobos" argument.
But if you want to, please explain why we have chocobos and not some other mount. Don't bring up different mounts coming in another future patch, as that is irrelevant to the point.
Now I know what Yoshida would say. Because Final Fantasy has always had Chocobos. You can apply that to moogles playing a part, Malboros and Behemoths being mobs, Dragoon being a job, crystals being in the main plot and summons being present. Almost every FF has had it, and FXIV will simply because it has become a tradition. Yoshida needs not to clarify this further, as no one here would complain about it because he has resorted to the "tradition" argument. If you don't like that, too bad.
Quit the game, then.
