It's interesting how the same words can be interpreted differently.

Yoshi P said that we can still choose to be on any server we like, and we do not have to choose the one that is physically closest to us.

He also said that they are not specifying any language bias for the servers. [but naturally certain servers will have more players who speak a certain language]

But he realizes that there are people who may not be best served by being on a server that is near them physically -- such as an American person living in Japan.

So such a person can still choose to be on a server located in North America if they like. [also understanding that there may be some latency issues because of their decision]

Anyway, that is how I interpreted it when I watched the live broadcast. (I do speak Japanese)
