They are putting servers in different regions so you can choose to be on a server that is physically close to you in order to reduce lag.

But they are not separating by language nor placing region access restrictions on them, so if you are in NA you can still choose to play on a server in Japan and vice versa.

So they really were getting rid of global servers. Yay, another kind of nice and unique trait of XI and XIV going down the drain...

No, we'll still be playing on global servers, they call em WORLDS.
These are data servers, as in you won't get much of a delay/lag by choosing a data server closest to you. You'll still be able to play with people from around the world, don't worry.

Correct. They are still global servers, just that they are physically spread out around the world (not just in Japan).

I read it as being able to pick a server which is physically closer to you or one of a different region, with the only interaction between them being through content finder. "Global" would be the fact that you're not forced to be in a server from your region.

I don't speak Japanese, nor is english my native language... so I just had this impression through Rein's translation and a couple JP-speaking friends who were translating live, too.

He just needs to go way more in-depth about it, and include pictures. I think it is simply a center for dataflow from the center to you, and not where the actual server connecting people are. Like if you were to fight ifrit or something, the data on what ifrit is doing will come from the center to you, thus reducing your lag. or you do crafting or gathering actions, from the center to you.

    My hopes at least

It's interesting how the same words can be interpreted differently.

Yoshi P said that we can still choose to be on any server we like, and we do not have to choose the one that is physically closest to us.

He also said that they are not specifying any language bias for the servers. [but naturally certain servers will have more players who speak a certain language]

But he realizes that there are people who may not be best served by being on a server that is near them physically -- such as an American person living in Japan.

So such a person can still choose to be on a server located in North America if they like. [also understanding that there may be some latency issues because of their decision]

Anyway, that is how I interpreted it when I watched the live broadcast. (I do speak Japanese)

Think we both had the same idea and expressed it slightly differently.

Thanks for the in depht reply!
