    How about a dislike button?

    Having only a like button is a bit one sided. Its like reading a book review site that only allows positive reviews. Choosing to abstain from reviewing isn't good enough. Having only nice things to say about a post that is bad will send the wrong idea. If I did not like what was said I want to let them know it.

    While it would be nice to see some trolls getting their just desserts, I don't think this is a good idea. SE excluded it for a reason.

    If you don't like somebody's idea, post a comment about it. That's what I'm doing now =P

    Since the system was introduced, I've seen idiotic posts with 0 or 1 thumbs up.. and GOOD posts with 10 or more. So it's easy to tell which ideas actually have merit. We don't need to hurt people's feelings by spamming them with dislikes.

    Yeah. Good posts getting disregarded because someone feels entitled to just "rate it down" without explaining why he doesn't agree is the crappiest idea ever. Not to mention the majority of people are not capable of objective thought and will rate down based on petty reasons (as in they don't agree with what was said). Thus unpopular opinions are "bad" opinions regardless of how valid and well thought-out they are.

    If we had a dislike button you could just dislike it XD. But I get what your saying I'm thinking more along the lines of when threads have way to many posts to just read all of them having a ratio of likes to dislikes is a nice overview at a glance.

    I think the dislike button should not be implimented. It is a way of trolling (if misused of course). Or, as a way of disagreeing with something without actually presenting an argument.

    The like button is pretty much the same as posting " *quote* i agree *unquote*"

    I do understand what the responses are saying about trolls, but that's also a benefit of a dislike button. By being able to rate down particularly flamebait-y or troll-tastic posts we can help keep the discourse more civil, especially if posts "disappear" after they get rated down a certain amount of times so they don't invite angry responses. I'm for this idea, but I'm honestly glad the Like button is there (I posted a suggestion for it on this forum on the first day and barely anyone responded ;
