I will warn you now I am PISSED. So I am raging, leave it be, let it be, and I will get it out and be done with it. Please beware I could care less about grammar, punctuation, etc., and run-on sentences will make your eyes hurt. Let it be known this is the THIRD time I quit this game, after watching your progress avidly as a true FF fan. I will give 2.0 one final shot, but for Square-Enix consider this a warning from one of your Final Fantasy fans who is a less devoted player, speaking on behalf of those other less devoted players who play FF MMOs.
First of all, FF MMOs suck, period. I have played both FFXI, and FFXIV, and no I didn't quit at level 5, I played extensively. Asian grindfest games for the lose, implement a different strategy for your American players, they don't care for it. Find some other way to make us make up for the quick level gain, and we will do it, but grinding isn't our preference. By the way Square-Enix, that is called localization. See, not only do you translate from Japanese to English (US), but you also take a good solid look at how your game and story affect the beliefs and culture of the local people. AKA, as stated above, don't insult GOD in any country (you're not, this is just an example), don't implement grinding in a fast paced country like America. I don't expect a FF MMO to be like every other one, but the route that has been taken here is just plain stupid and wasteful of hours upon hours of my life that I will never get back.
Secondly, "OH, my god, that Grand Company quest location is so far away. Okay, let's rent a chocobo for 800 gil and head down there the faster way than using all my anima that restores at a rediculous 1 point every 4-6 hours. Oh, jeez, I just died because my latency to the JAPANESE servers while playing in AMERICA is terrible, and some random level 50+ monster just one-shotted me while running to that location, it wasn't there before but it magically appeared several seconds after I ran past it, chasing me and giving me zero option to do anything but die! Oh crap, I didn't hop off my chocobo to tag the aetherite and make it my home point, so now I must expend more anima or gil to travel back to the city in question and get another chocobo or make that aetherite my home point and travel there on foot the slow way! Maybe I would have done that if I could get back on the chocobo again without having to run to this rediculously far away location without being able to get back on one, and all this in an attempt to just get my personal chocobo in the first place!"
Third, "I am just so glad that Square-Enix put those high-level monsters there that I cannot, in the middle of a lowbie zone (lv 30 vs lv 50+), see on my screen until several seconds after passing them by, to deter me from taking this route. Perhaps after some personal sympathy, I will be smarter next time and take a route that doesn't involve invisible high level mobs. Thanks Square-Enix!"
Fourth, "Well, since I am running I guess I will grab that gathering point over there. Oh! Look, I just found an item from this here gathering point that I cannot even use until I gain 30 levels in my gathering profession, and it's worth jack to an NPC or on the market wards to boot! That will show me, how DARE I even bother with gathering unless I plan to load up all my retainer's without items I cannot even use yet? That is of course until they are full, at which point I will just have to sell the not worthless item, sacrificing EXP, forcing me to gather from lower level gathering points to get more high level pointless crap, just to squeeze an extra few EXP out of my already too high level crafting profession for this item, making everything take hours longer! Jeez, I feel like a horses patoot!"
There are more, it's a laundry list and trying to think about every one just makes my brain hurt. As a matter of fact, I think a large part of it is the result of brain damage, trying to figure out the mentality and philosophy behind both the old and the new FFXIV design & development teams. To conclude:
Seriously, what do I think when I play FFXI or FFXIV? It's like the dev team went out of their way to make sure things took FOREVER, besides the grinding. Don't put the servers in America for American players, let them be in Japan! So the Japanese players can click something and the result instantly occurs, whereas our foolish and greedy American players click something and must wait for 1-3 seconds every time to get any result! What brilliance, what incredible genius!
I'm sorry but if you disagree, hat off to you. You are patient and/or probably have no life. I apologize if this seems rude, but it's true, please do not respond because your offense will only prove my point. I have a life outside the game, get X amount of time to play per week next to my job, college, kids and a wife. I don't want to waste my X amount of time watching my toon hop in the stupid elevator and constantly have to skip scene.
*EDIT*
"Oh look, I can get a goobbue mount and legacy status for my continued devotion to the game. At last, Square-Enix gives us a reward for all our waiting! Oh, what's that? Goobbue mount could previously be obtained as long as you did it before 2.0, but it was stopped in 1.23a? Oh, that is disappointing, but at least I can still get legacy status! Oh? What's that you say? I paid for 30 days but after that I will be getting FFXIV for free again thus not qualifying for legacy status? Oh, I didn't know legacy status was discontinued at the end of August, I guess I won't be getting that either then. Why wasn't I allowed to get a 90 day subscription, so I could auto-qualify? Oh, I see you stopped that months ago so we would get completely @#*$@# like we are now. That's a shame, I guess I will enjoy staring at my waste of a subscription then."
"Alright, I just got a bunch of guildleves after saving up! Let's return to Camp Bloodshore and do them, so we can get all that much closer to completing the storyline and quitting this silly nanny game again. Oh...wow, I guess that is a new addition. Atomos and all his level ?? monsters are surrounding the aetherite and destroyed me in one shot. That was a poor place to put them. Look at all those other people dying as well, what was Square-Enix thinking when they added this? Put these creatures at a level 50 camp! Alright, calm down, calm down, let's just return and try to run away as fast as we can. Oh, died again. Apparently even though I lag because I am in AMERICA, the monsters located on the JAPANESE servers, do not lag, instantly tag and destroyed me, seconds later I find out. Okay, I guess I will just have to spend more gil and ride a chocobo from the main city all the way out here. Thanks for wasting yet another 10 minutes of my life Square-Enix, you showed me what was up!"
