What's your ISP? ISPs don't like you torrenting typically so some restrict bandwidth when they see transfer rates that hint at it.

Also check your port forwarding. You'll do this by going to your browser and connecting to your router. You can google "Port Forwarding" If you need additional help.

Some routers do not come configured to be friendly towards torrents at default settings. the client DLs patches as torrents, but the client is pretty terrible, so a lot of people use a 3rd party torrent software.

    More about Torrent files: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrent_file

in a nutshell it's a way of file sharing. there are many pros/cons to this method over direct downloads. namely it reduces serverload when DLing patches because it distributes the load over several users instead of to a central point, which can cause a bottle neck.

Here's a link describing how to use a third party torrent software:

Well i tried to torrent but at the moment i am at school so the dont have access to the modem and such. I believe my school does limit torrenting cause it wont even let me download a thing on uTorrent like it usually does when i am at my home during the summer. Is their any way around this or am i screwed till i go back to my own home?

I'm getting the exact same thing, but I really can't use any torrents or else I will lose internet access all-together at my school.

    Ouch.

Sorry guys. some schools IT systems aren't very robust, and you can trick it with a proxy. this is a bit convoluted and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because if the school catches you there may be disciplinary action. of course what you do is your business.

Try contacting your IT department and explain to them what's going on. they may have a work around for you. I know there was one guy who was uploading direct DL links for patches, but i'm not sure if he still does that. you might try your hand at some google searches.

Alternatively you could try running to a local starbucks/library and DL the patch from a laptop and then porting it over to your main PC.

I'll try various places on campus, instead of just my dorm room then. Thanks for the suggestion!

Get a download accelerator. one problem with direct downloads is it doesn't save progress. IE: the servers do not know how much you've downloaded, so if you start to DL a big file and you get interupted, you lose everything you've already DLd.

an accelerator will save your progress and you can continue from where you left off. I would recommend one, but I haven't had the need to use one in a long time. but do a bit of research to make sure there isn't a ton of adware in w/e you use.
