Is Atomos trying to help us?

The prophesy has been cryptic and many parts turn out to be not what they seemed.
With Atomos seeping black doom from the hells, they do bring with them Overaspected Crystals. The biggest problem facing Eorzea at the moment seems to be the draining of aether from the planet itself.
Could Atomos be replenishing the aether, but his only way is to bring forth these terrifying cratures to ferry it?

I seriously doubt Atomos drained the Aetherites. If that were the case, we wouldn't be able to teleport there at all anymore. They would be dead crystals.

Instead, we can teleport there cost-free and they're a new golden color. If anything, I would say he supercharged (over aspected?) the Aetherites, making them even stronger.

the color could also mean that the aetherites are not healthy and if atomos summons a lot of monster from the void it could drain the energy and possibly created rifts in space and time so you could easily create portal to teleport to these locations .

Interesting theory.

Remember the concept art however the orange crystals were the "broken atherites that ripped themselves from the ground and had to be chained down.

Those look the same colour to me, and i always assumed they were chained down to stop them going to dalmund which we always considered a bad thing.

Hmm even in the first quest it doesn't seem like Atomos is helping anyone but doing his own thing. Just like in FFXI Atomos is just kinda there doing his thing.

It helps us passively, for example in WoTG Atomos lets us travel back to the past (thanks to Cait Sith mainly) and Abyssea he lets us travel to another dimension, but he is not friend or foe unless you determine what he's doing is good or bad. More will probably be explained soon ;p

I would agree with this one, if you look at the overaspected crystal icon its an orange colour so it would be logical that the aetherites have become overaspected.

Lololink, that idea disturbs me...

It could be that we're simply taking the crystals back after Atomos creates them from stolen Aether. That doesn't explain why those camps are free, though.
