I think you're the one who missed it. People recognize the slowpoke meme. They just thought he was referring to it being old news that the level cap was confirmed to being raised. Instead he was referring to the speculation being old news, which isn't exactly clarified in his choice of words.
No...no I did not miss it. I got immediately that he meant the 50+ in the video was noticed by many many people before OP. The fact that the Slowpoke is present makes it obvious that it was a joke about OP being late in noticing what everyone else already did.I think you're the one who missed it. I'm pretty sure Yoshida said the level cap would not be raised at launch so that current players do not get too far ahead of new players.
That's just the nature of an MMORPG though. The Gamescom/PAX/Aniversary footage doesn't really confirm anything about that, even if the EXP progression is interesting to note (and has been several times before, so yeah, it was a pretty fitting to use the Slowpoke).
Just for the Record, the last statement made on this subject was from Yoshida who said something to the effect of:
"We will not raise level cap until after Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 Launches"
