DOWNLOADING OF UPATES

please please please fix this issue. i'm on a ADSL 2+ 24mbps connection i should be able to download the patch updates within minutes yet its taking forever... so your now gonna tell me to torrent it... welll i'm trying to but no one is seeding it and if they are they havent allowed connections.... please do something bout the speed to download updates... thank you!!

I have the same issue I have 30mbps connection this should of downloaded in a bout 2 minutes but nearly 2 hours now and still only at 75%. very annoying.

Have you opened the ports in your router/modems firewall?

1 - Find out the brand and model of your router
2 - Find your router on the list on www.portforward.com
3 - Scroll down and select FINAL FANTASY XI PC
4 - Follow the instructions, but instead of whatever ports it tells you, use the ones listed below.

This site will give you the information you need to figure out how to forward ports on your particular router.

The ports you need to open are 54992-55551 TCP/UDP and port 443 UDP open.

Personally i use Utorrent to update my game, and i will do so until they fix the updater... this morning update, march 30, the updater was going at 45kb/ sec and was gonna take 45 min... I used Utorrent and it downloaded in 1m13sec at 3.3mb/s....
then you can just let it upload to help other update their game !

I'd like them to enable other clients apart from FFXIV on their tracker. At least some perhaps some approved clients on a whitelist basis, rather than a general free-for-all. (utorrent perhaps for one).

The fundamental flaw in the P2P update model in this instance is that people don't continue seeding, because as soon as the update is done the client moves to the next step of applying the update and launching the game.

I'm sure alot of people would be happy to help seeding updates, if the option were available and actually contributed to the update speed of those using the official game client (which it does not when using DHT on utorrent, essentially the official updater will never see those seeds as they cannot register on the main tracker due to not being a whitelisted client).

yeah that's what i do with uTorrent, let the update seed for a while after its updated

my torrent (i use vuze aka azureus) client wouldnt even connect to any of the seeders or peers. i have port forwards setup for vuze, but yet nothing. it eventually finished downloading after just under 2 hrs.... 106mb in 2hrs, might aswell still be using 56k...

Double check and make sure DHT Network is enabled.

for a house that uses a router and two pc's that run ffxiv whats the best way to setup the port forwarding? i can't seem to get it to work for my other PC i never get remote connections but i got like 28 local connections last night. Maybe i am not understanding the difference.
