They need to get it out as fast as possible huh?
Sounds familiar.
And an option to switch them on or off would be out of the question? Then someone else posted that not only is this for "Gameplay" when it comes to motions effecting battle, but the cost of processing stop motions in crowded areas would be too much for the game to play well on lower end computers which YoshiP has acknowleged is one of the goals of ARR.
No! This decision had to be made very early on in development. That H key was added months ago! This has nothing (or very little to do with) deadlines.
I don't know. But it would probably be just for your character and not for everyone else's. Would that really make you feel better? It would probably just be weird.
Are you really going to throw out all the good things about ARR just because they took out a few animations?
I can understand getting rid of them for a temporary thing, than add em back in after 2.0. buuuut ya, this is just lazy and unintuitive on their part. No! I remember the first time I saw video footage of 2.0 and noticed that they had gotten rid of the sluggishness of moving your character. To be honest I'm a little sad to see it go. It would be nice if they could keep it and maybe just tone it down.
It's not an entirely huge deal for me, I just hope they don't sacrifice too much to make it a FF copy of popular MMOs :x
I think it's silly to say that taking out a few animations is "lazy and unintuitive". Lazy means that they could have done it, but didn't feel like mustering up the time and resources/manpower to do it. This does not appear to be the case. It appears that they weighed the pros and cons of it against what they had already decided what the goal was. You may want this game to be a hard hitting, graphical powerhouse, but remember that's what the game is right now. But it's doing terribly. Why? Because people who are not Rokien, people who are in the majority, care more about gameplay than graphics.
Saying that it's unintuitive is also strange. You would say it's something unnatural or "weird" to cut back on these animations. But the goal was to make the game "lighter" They did that graphically without cutting down on quality. The game actually looks more natural environment wise. But if they were going to meet their goal, they had to cut somewhere.
Once ARR hits I believe Content Finder will be the most crucial part in the game. So much is revolved around it.... but I don't think new players will care... and old players will forget about it so long as the rest of the game is good.
It was a calculated decision. It has nothing to do with your preconceived ideas about what FFXIV is supposed to look like. In the best case, we're all just going to think back at these posts and laugh.
If it has nothing to do with deadlines, then you're telling me that Square concientiously made the decision to skimp out on animation to make it more like 'The MMO standard'. When I hear 'standard' I hear unoriginal and safe. Standardizing the UI? Fine, I get that, makes it smooth and familiar to play. Standardizing gameplay? No. I don't want what is essentially the same experience with a new skin. That's cheap and lame. No! This decision had to be made very early on in development. That H key was added months ago! I don't see why it has to be for only my character. That just seems like an arbitrary limit. Not that it wouldn't be an improvement.
The only thing I'm actually looking forward to in ARR at this point is the new world I'll explore for a while. If the game fails to impress me beyond that, I'll likely quit. I don't need another money sink for something I only find mildly interesting.
Stop that.
This is the first time I've even questioned the devs and their plan for ARR. I don't want to run like they do in Elder Scrolls, and yet... that's what it looks like right now.
I was surprised when someone pointed out to me that "Hey-o, they've already removed the movements the OP is talking about." That's when I knew, and posted

Conclusion: Is removing the stop motion a downgrade? Yes, it could be considered a downgrade. However, as sad as that is to contemplate, it must be acknowleged that until the hardware of the average player catches up, ARR is going to aim for the largest customer subscription base.
Eventually, maybe the next FF MMO could do those kind of movements....
yeah they have to sacrifice somes things , no summoner job at the release and other things .
they can't delay the remake too much , square wants to make money ...
