    You know. I find it kinda funny they added jumping, something that's going to have little use besides jumping off hills and fences they added, and got rid of fluid animation, then say it's because they wanted to focous on gameplay. Yoshi himself said jumping was just added for people who liked to jump, what about those of us who like smooth animation? If jumping is mainly there for asthetics, why are you dropping one of the few things that got praised at launch? If you wanted to focus so much on gameplay, why give us a mostly usless jump feature? Why redesign the world to be more varied? Why add dynamic lighting? Why add the missing sexes? Why add a mark on meteor survivors?

    They've added smooth animation and kept aesthetics as important. For some reason, you think that making the animations a little simpler means that SE has thrown out aesthetics and is making the game ugly and choppy and going to back to the 90s. Your views are an extremely emotional reaction to something that won't matter a hill of beans.

    As far as the majority of players and reviewers who have seen this game, they're uninamous that YoshiP and SE is turning this sow's ear into a silk purse. It's already won awards much to the shock of the troll community who wrote, is writing and will continue to write this game off regardless of what SE does.

    Gramul, Rokien, Remy.... It's okay to like some aspects of this game, and miss them when they're gone, but saying that ARR is going to be a bad game because they took them out is just silliness. IF ARR is a bad game it will because the screw up the gameplay mechanics... you know like they did in 1.0. That the UI is burdensome... like in 1.0.

    The game is going to look just fine. No one is saying this game is looking worse because there's not an extra step in your running animation.

    -1 animation, +10 reasons to actually like the game.

    Exactly. We say the game is looking worse because they completely removed the current animation, replacing it with generic Korean MMO animation, with camera pans, stiff running, backpedaling etc, that looks completely fake and awkward compared to what we currently have.

    I wouldn't even make a thread if they had just removed an extra step in the stopping animation

    i think jumping is less useless than these animations .
    jumping gives us a lot more liberty in MMO , only the fact that you could jump over a fence or jump of a little cliff gives you a lot of liberty that lack terribly in 1.0 it's a little thing but it change a lot of things .

    You'd have to be a fool to think that jumping won't be useful in some sort of dungeon/quest/boss fight in the future. Doesn't have to be release, doesn't have to be first expansion, but it WILL be used.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way the animation (movement) is now. It should stay this way, similar to how FFXIII's movement, and even XII's animations are (it's one of the nicer things Square has done with modern Final Fantasy).

    I understand that animation lock is an issue and I would hope that they could establish a way to keep these animations while not losing that 'feel'. I'm sure they could come up with something. I mean, why can't these animations stay very similar, while in motion (running/dodging a plume?), and also still be anatomically correct?

    If they slowed the movement slightly in the demo and keep the present animations (ARR demo WS animation looks extremely fast) it might work. They could probably make it work one way or another.

    This is going to be a huge difference. I'd like to see Square keep their nice animations.

    At this point i'm sure it's too late anyway

    Edit: Btw, i'm not saying that the game won't be better than most MMO, because i'm sure it will be better than them all. As I mentioned, i'd just like to see certain things stick.

    I'm going to copy/paste/edit what I last posted from the downgrade thread...

    While many of you here are arguing about whether the animation and gameplay affect each other in any meaningful way, I'm left wondering one simple question:

    Why is it that ArenaNet has no problem coding Guild Wars 2 avatars with fluid stop/land animations while still maintaining lag-free gameplay? Here's your example. Also notice that, at about 5 minutes in, even in battle there is still somewhat of a foot positioning animation of about 1-2 seconds. Doesn't affect gameplay at all. Explain that SE. While I agree that GW2 animations are unattractive, ARR animation would obviously be much better of course. The main thing is that animation doesn't have to affect gameplay when there is solid proof another game is doing it. SE copped out with their "gameplay focus" response (nothing personal Rukkirii... I have a cyber-crush on you).

    Basically, if GW2 can do it, why the $%@# can't FFXIV?! SE needs to look at GW2 and stop looking at WoW for this and many other reasons.
