Rift

I know this is FFXIV website and forum, but had to write about Rift. I have never played it and I never want to. Why? It copies too much from WoW to be its own game. While FFXIV is broken, I love this game. Why? Its not like any other game out there. It isn't even like FFXI. After reading a number of posts I am getting a little mad at some of the comments. All I hear is "copy and paste" from FFXI and "if its not broken don't fix it". I am sorry if this offends anyone as not my intention, but this is NOT FFXI or a sequel. I do NOT want this game to be anything like FFXI. I like that SE made a separate game and changed a lot of features. I just wish the features FFXIV has can be done FULLY and CORRECTLY. With Yoshi-san at the helm I am sure they will. So please, can we remember that being unique isn't a bad thing its a blessing. It is refreshing to play something I haven't before. I do not WANT or NEED a rehash of WoW, Aion, Rift, or even FFXI. All I want is THIS game to be finished.

Agreed, however all of those games do some things right, and there isn't anything wrong in seeing how they do them and then taking that idea and expanding on it. Still, I want XIV to be XIV, and so I'm hoping that we'll get a better picture of it over the next few updates.

I agree, I loved chocobo raising from XI and the mog house but in XIV I want something more. I just don't want the same old stuff from XI. If that was the case I would go back to playing XI. I don't know maybe I expect too much out of the games I play

The main problem to your post is that you say "I never played it" and yet still seem to know everything about it.

Personally I didn't like Rift that much, not because it clones WoW though, but at least I played enough of it to have an opinion on the matter

You don't need to play a game to know if you are going to like it or not. I have read many reviews on many sites about the game and personally followed it for a long time to see how it plays out. I also have friends that play the game so while I haven't "played" it I have seen it and I saw enough to have noticed the similarities to WoW. If it hadn't taken so much from WoW I think I would be playing that right now. I like games that dare to be different, Demon Souls, Ico, Okmi. I see how different FFXIV is from other MMO and really don't want it to be turned into a clone of other games. That is all I am saying

Copy pasting a previous success will almost always lead to failure or a very subpar product in the end.

Even now unless rift does something fast I do not see it lasting more then a year or 2, it only has what other games have in them. Nothing new, nothing creative, even the main element rifts are nothing more then behest... they are not even random since all rifts have set spots they spawn. The quest are worse then WoWs, the dungeons are not that great, the main story is ok nothing great, the animations suck, graphics are subpar for this generation of mmos look at what else is coming up, gameplay is meh same old same old, soul system is decent it is a hybrid of FFXIV's System and WoW's System... but most the souls are the same just different animations and slightly different effects, that and the classes are locked so still required you to make a ton of alts.

Over all Rift is a very very subpar mmo, its only strengths are a perfect release, good advertising campaign, and the fact it is exactly what The WoW playerbase is use to. Outside those there is so many other mmos that does everything rift does but much better. Really I feel Rift is on borrowed time, if they do not get thier own soul and make something that is not copy/pasted 100% once that awesome feeling fades... people will flee back to their other mmos that are more solidly made... I know many ppl who already quit because of this and see alot more doing the same with in months. There are alot of people capped on 1 character already on that game and it is a month old, some have multiple capped characters. That game is going to see the Aion effect (massive boom of subs followed by a plummet on sub count) within months at this rate.

I love how ppl go on thanking Yoshi-san for all the hard work when 60% or more of the self being release is from Tanaka. I do say yoshi done a great work so far but i wont give him that much credit too 1year from now when he on his own.

I hope SE pull there finger out quick I just saw a thing on IGN about Rift and they say it has over 1,000,000 players already O.O That is a lot of people that could have been playing FFXIV, I guess a lot people were ready for a new MMO. I checked the review out while I was there and they did say it didn't do anything new really but what it did do is copy and polish things so they worked great. Thats kinda what I wish SE would have done with FFXIV maybe then they would have a million people playing now.
