single player and groupe play in mmo

    hello to everyone

First off i would like to apologize for some grammar errors, english is not my nativ language(im from eastern europe),and i usually dont post on forums

The post is probably going to be a bit longer one, warning!

Playing video games is my hobby since my high school days iv mostly focused on rpg games and in recent years some mmos to.

The reason for this post is,final fantasy franchise is one of my favourite and i would really like to see that this new version of ff 14 succsedes.

I saw recent video of Yoshi-p and ff 14 crew, and i wish u all the best and that u take us all on a wonderfull journey like all the other games in ff franchise

Yoshi-p mentioned in this recent video about making new ff 14 more casual, and that is good direction imo,i think personaly blend of single player model and groupe one is the way to go.

This is the concept i have in mind:

dungeons: normal difficulty: - single player -very hard
    - 5 man -easy
    -10 man -medium

dungeons:challenge/hardcore difficulty: - no single player
    - 5 man very hard
    - 10 man extremly hard

why single player dungeon mode, well first off so u can enjoy and complete game main story at your own pace and give yourself some challenge.
Yoshi-p mentioned in the recent video about bosses for main story quests, this can be solution in a way.

open world map, after u reach max lvl, should be for exploration with hidden quests and treasures, and should be solo friendly, except some rare NM mobs and events

there should be some areas where monsters are extremly hard to tackle alone,it would be wise to bring some friends

About NM i very much liked hunt missions from ff 12,and to avoid camping, monster will only appeare on the map when u take the quest, and cant be attacked by other players until the one(or groupe) who has the quest start combat, but after that if some other players are near by,they can help if they so choose

What made final fantasy franchise the thrilling and unforgetable experience for me and i believe many other players..it was the journey..the story and memorable characters

U can blend that with mmo setting, let the main quest guide players from one zone to another,so they gradually get to know the world and lore about it,and meet lots of interesting ppl and characters on the way

This is just my humble opinion i wish u all best of luck

i would prefer something like that for dongeons :
Solo mode : only the story , easy difficulty , ask you to dodge a little some attacks but nothing really hard , with cutscenes and others stuff ,you get no gears
Group mode : more bosses , harder , loots , more epic fight , no cutscenes ( it's cool the first 3 times but after you just pass them )

    btw too much smileys

D&D online has multiple difficulties for every dungeon, ranging from "Solo" difficulty (which can still be played with a group if you're struggling) to "epic". "Solo" is still good for getting EXP and you can get some useable loot from the more challenging missions, and the rewards increase more or less linearly with the difficulty level.

So if I log into the game, no one is on my linkshell, no one is doing anything for groups that I can take part in, no shouts for events I can do or need or I cant get help with something I should log off? Solo content in an MMO IS important. Its important because between point A and point B you might find yourself online alone. If you want to play for a couple of hours but dont have time to shout, scream or scramble to get help you may want to do something alone.

I think its a little silly to act like at no point in an MMO people dont play solo. I think if you love to group, fine however they should offer some solo content. If they dont offer any solo content this re-release will fall just as flat as the original release.

Why stop there? I mean if you're going for extreme situations, go big....

What if all the Levequest NPCs aren't there? What if the levequest mobs don't spawn? What if all the storyline quests stop working and your Grand Company locks its doors so you can't get in there? What if the Behest Warden has stopped coming around? What if all the side-quest NPCs stop asking for help? What if all the crystals required for crafting suddenly vanished, making that impossible? What if all the typically soloable mobs suddenly had an extra two zeroes added to their level and became impossible to solo? What if every other thing you could solo perfectly fine solo were to just disappear right as you're logging in?

    What ever would you do?

Why is it that people have this tendency to come up with some extreme hypothetical problem, ignore all the obvious solutions to said "problem", and proceed to argue it as though it's some kind of valid point?

The mental gymnastics required to actually find such things rational must be amazing.

Here's another example, of which I've seen happen almost verbatim...

Person A: "I don't like how fast the leveling is. 1 week to level cap is too fast for any MMO".
Person B: "Oh, so I should like, stop talking to all my friends, quit my job, lock myself in my room and grind all day every day for a year just so I can get one level 50?"

That's almost a direct quote to one response I've seen. And there have been many others that were just as ridiculously over-blown and hyperbolic.

General Rule of Thumb: If you have to dress up your argument with hyperbolic details just to make it seem more "serious", it probably isn't serious to begin with.

I'll let them clarify for themself if they wish, but I don't think they were trying to say "there should be no solo content in MMOs". Even the most avid pro-group player I've met wouldn't say that. How I took it is "why is there so much emphasis by players on there being solo content". Especially considering there is plenty you can do solo in XIV even now.

Saying "well I'm not interested in any of that" isn't a good counter-point. Solo content that you don't like is still solo content.

If that's what they're getting at, they're right.

What do you see more of? People asking for things to be more soloable, or more group-centric?

In my experience, "more solo" takes it at least 80% of the time.

I have to agree This is an MMORPG. A good example of what OP is asking for is SW:TOR.

Although the game needs to be less harsh in relation to getting a party and solo content.. of course there's no point in complaining any of this, as we're yet to see 2.0 :P

Solo + group content needs to be split.

I hate the idea of the same content just being more difficult in a group, but easier by yourself -- Just like I hate easy mode + hard mode dungeons.
