Onion Helm worth using past level 10?

Sorry for such a noob question, I just started playing again and I am pretty hopeless so far. At any rate, I'm curious as to whether the Onion Helm is even worth using anymore? I had preordered the game before it released and then I pretty much quit after it failed and only played sparingly (like less than a day of playtime) in the year it was free-to-play. So I'm struggling to understand what I should do and mostly just focusing on repeating local/regional leve-quests while grinding a bit for levels.

Any advice on whether I was screwed by going with the Onion Helm instead of the Goggles? Those give extra xp, seems like SE kinda gave the good pre-order item to those who didn't buy the Collector's Edition.

Also, if there is a friendly/social Linkshell on Masamune that could use a noob to kick around (*read: help out) I would be most appreciative!

Thanks in advance to any advice/thoughts!

Both are just novelty items, and really aren't much use at all past lv10.

Ok sounds good, I'll refrain from wearing the onion helm from now on as I didn't particularly like how stupid I look with it much less the fact that it probably screams noob to everyone within viewing distance (>_<)

    Thanks for the info!

No problem! If you're wondering what gear you SHOULD be using, you can use one of these 2 sites:

    http://ffxiv.mozk-tabetai.com/

    http://mooglebox.com/includes/

Thanks for the links, the first one is pretty cool, not so sure about the second one. I've been using this so far: http://www.ffxivinfo.com/

Personally I'd really love to see www.XIVpads.com integrate a database (actually I think they are working on one!) as I really like XIVpads so far. It's so smooth and well designed. A few bugs, but overall pretty amazing site in conjunction with the ol' Lodestone here. :P

Thanks again for the advice, I know people were pretty friendly in FFXI, but so far it has been pretty quiet in Eorzea for me. I suppose I'll just have to start being more social

    ~Cheers!

Perhaps try posting in the Masamune forums for a linkshell?

Another site that's really helpful -- and one that I use a lot -- is Mooglebox.

Alright I'll check it out, thanks for the info. Again, your post in that other forum thread just now was stellar. I'm excited to apply that information to my play-style and really progress!

    No problem. Hope it helps.

I should probably also point out that I bought the Collector's Edition, so I should have gotten an Onion Helm. But I got all excited and started playing the game before registering. And it turns out you can't get the items unless you register before playing. So I have to look jealously at your Onion Helm because I never got mine.

    /sigh
