SE should really make the forums for people with FFXIV accounts only. I would almost start paying just to get rid of people that already quit FFXIV but still can't get over it and camp the forums 24/7.
actually you do need and account or least a code to sign up for the forums. Least I did. So yes I do own a copy of ffxiv. Due to PC issues I can't play it yet.

And the reason I made this thread because if I posted it in the 3 topics, 1 i would have to rewrite everything 3 times. And 2 i would be derailing their Idea thread with my question.

Again not trying to be mean. How does me owning ffxiv or not have to do me with me asking a question on why something is a popular topic to discuss on a forum.

If people don't wanna reply to it thats ok, Just let the thread go. It be a bit nicer to do

Like the others I'm not sure making a thread complaining against a subject was a good idea but anyway, here's my answer.

Personally, I'm in favor of death penalty. While they don't need to be extremely harsh, they need to be enough to make you dislike dying. I find that it's a way to bring tension or excitement to the game(not sure if that's the right way to say it but whatever).

I explain, currently there's no afterthought for dying. In a fight when you see you might lose, right now, the common reaction is just to continue the fight the same way and if i die, well that's it and if i way, it's cool.

But with a correct death penalty, it's different. Since death is something you hate, you'll do your best to stay alive. If you might lose the fight, you'll try thing like fleeing, using a potion, using the terrain to your advantage, call for help or anything else that can increase your surviving chances. You would probably keep food on you since anything that increase your surviving chances is good and be more careful about gear choice(by that i mean use something in the correct rank range).

Still that's just my opinion. I see death penalty as a way to increase "challenge" and turn a lot of useless game mechanic useful. When you don't care about surviving, why would you care about stuff that don't give you an incredible advantage like the potions or food? As for the challenge part, it's just that when I'm in a dire situation, i want to have the feeling that it's a dire situation, not think, whatever, i'll just try again in 5 mins.

However I do understand people who see it as a time sink and find that mechanic useless.

And there sorry but having snowflake-itis is getting annoying we already of 3 denth penalty threads. We don't need more. I much rather see 1 thread with 1K posts then 1K thread with 5 posts. All you are doing is necroing posts faster.
I find it funny how you said the above quote in another thread and 20mins later you made a new thread.. fail..

do take time to actually read what I typed. You will see I'm not against the topic. Just surpised it is a topic at all, even more suprised that ppl want a harsher penalty.

I already put my 2 cents in the threads with ideas of a death penalty.

this is not a complaint thread. This is not a new thread about the same subject.
This thread is a discussion on why something is a topic. I am not saying it is bad to talk about it, just shocked and confused and looking for answers.
And just dudn't want to derail a thread to ask.

    question is simple.
why is a games death penetly a popular topic. I'm not asking for opinions on said subject. Nor am I'm saying talking about it is bad.

I also appologised for that comment.

"Derailing" is what happens when you post something completely unrelated to the topic, that is likely to steer the topic down a completely different path.

Posting about pie, Charlie Sheen, or Pluto's planetary status would be derailing. Posting a question about the topic at hand (including "why is this even a topic?") is called "participating".

    Just sayin'.

your right the question is simple and you would of gotten a good answer if u simple asked that question in one of the already existing popular threads about death penalty as opposed to starting a new thread with a title that has no relevance to the topic of the thread. Your just doing the same thing you claimed other thread starters were doing, "All you are doing is necroing posts faster." The proof of that is the title of your thread, simply meant to draw people to click on the thread and the fact you post after your own post, iv seen you do it in multiple threads, when you could of simply used edit if u wanted to just added something more.

P.S> don't forget this is beta forums, for all you know, all those post counts might be reset during the final version.

Didn't want to derail the threads about an idea with a question. I just tried it in the idea about levequests and so far ppl see me just derailing the thread. And title was be being silly about my confusion.

Your can rationalize it however you want but what your doing is simply trolling and raising your own post count.

I don't want to derail the thread topic so i will attempt to answer your question. i think you said in another thread that you don't have the game yet so you might not know this but as a result of no death penalty, people have been using dieing as a simple means of teleport to homepoint without having to waste anima. There is also the issue that people don't fear dieing in large groups since you still get xp/sp for mobs killed while your dead. Because of this people don't bother playing smart, such as curing themselves, they simple expect other people to do it(mages) and even if they die, nothing is lost. This is some of the reasons why people feel that there should be higher death penalties.
