Entirely possible, the problem is it could take awhile to make because it would need a huge dictionary to work efficiantly, I really hope someone does make one, so I hit a button that says JP, I type English, and it translates to Japanese, depending on the scope of the add-ons, it could even see what language your game is and translate accordingly, so you have a JP, EN, GR, FR players in a party, you just type "Melee stand at his back, and move when cracks appear" it would then translate it into all languages and send the correct translations to the correct players.

This however will take a long time to make with all the different dictionaries used but it will be a huge help to all of us.

Well it can be done already... Logs from the game can be read. Then it's only a matter of having the logs being translated in real time by Google or w/e other instant translation service you want to use.

This process is already heavily used for non-Japanese speakers so they can "enjoy" their Visual Novels.

AGTH + Translation Aggregator does the trick. For XIV, AGTH is not even needed.

There is already a stand-alone that takes FFXIV log and translates it using google translator. Someone could put that into in-game addon form.

If only I knew what that standalone was called...

You have to consider variables in parties that is one-language-only situation.

When you think of events like Garuda fights, United we Stand or To Kill a Raven, there's constant changes in strategies/ roles for players. Unless you can convince a JP party you understand your role(have more than one job) and have experience in the battle, they'll kick ya!

You might have to take into consideration that maybe JP prefer voice chat servers like Ventrilo or Team Speak when doing events. There's no other quicker form of communication than that.

I dont know any of my friends using Voice chat services for this game. They have macros set up for certain things that happen in boss fights. And dungeon runs and strategies are explained with nice pictures in blogs

My whole LS uses mumble, it makes everything so much easier, like on the fly strat changes, long events where there's just too much info to go through at the start, warning party members of things while running etc etc etc I could go on.

We're talking JP friends here. And its better if you just learn what to do without every instruction being called out to you . . .

Same here. I am only in Japanese Linkshells and none of us use voice chat. We use the chat log and macros for certain events just as your friends do.

Yes there is already a google translate from log. If the addons are powerful enough that creator has plans to make an official addon when its possible - so lets hope SE gives them the power (also hope there is some way to only allow addons you trust to access the net, otherwise I could see some evil addons in our future...)

Also we could really make do with what we have now if SE only added a strategy auto translate section and fill in the blank translates.

[ if boss casts ____ then, _______ ] Would get people so far. In 2.0 it would be easier to implement a smooth fill in the blank.
I imagine the only way in 1.0 would be to have the auto translate sentence and then send it two parameters like [ if _ then _ ] ([dogs fall], [its raining])

The other day I saw someone shouting in Ul'dah about forming a party, and he said English-only. Other people proceeded to call him a racist even though I'm pretty sure they were just being sarcastic trolls.

Point is, it's not just restricted to Japanese people doing this sort of thing.. however, I for one am not bothered by it at all. The Auto-Translate system is dodgy at best, with only very basic communication possible. If given the chance, I would jump at a party that was English-only.. sorry if that is upsetting to people or what have you, but I enjoy just being able to type and have other people understand what I'm saying. I'm sure the Japanese feel similar, we're all just human after all.

What I hate is when I get purely auto-translated party invites randomly when I'm out on my WHM, they contain what must be half of the auto-translate words in the entire dictionary sometimes.. it makes me nervous and sometimes I ignore them outright because I'm afraid the person doesn't speak any English. Someone mentioned a few pages in that they like the way shouts "look" with the neat and colored brackets.. well trust me, there's a better chance of convincing me to party or help you or what have you if you just speak English.

I guess it's unfortunate if you're playing at a time of day where your language group isn't prevalent, but ultimately I just don't see an issue with people wanting to party with their own language group, and there still should be parties available out there where people are mingling so I don't think it should be any sweat off people's back.

I would never go out in World of Warcraft and party with a bunch of people I couldn't communicate with extensively (even if there was a basic auto-translate function), so maybe that impacts the way I see it. I just want to be able to speak to the other people I play with, I don't think that's entirely unreasonable.
