When you realize that the auto-translate is actually quite bad which is the real reason a lot of Japanese players doesn't use it, the sooner you'll realize it's not laziness.

When the majority of shouts you see, from NA players, consists of <hyur> <fun> <hole> <can I have it?>, do you honestly not wonder why the JP stopped bothering with it beyond localization reasons? It's well known the localization between languages for certain things is why it's not heavily used.

Also, JP only generally deals with "Japanese Language Only", I haven't seen anyone who attempts to communicate with them get kicked, it's the ones who try to join JP shouts and tell them to speak english are the ones who get kicked, btw, NA players are far worse with their "kicking/declining".

This'll probably be the one and only time I'll get to disagree with you Elexia. With the exception of events which require extensive planning, preparation and thought to execution, there is no good reason why players of any national origin/native language cannot or should not play together.

Let me give you a brief personal experience to illustrate: During my short time on Cerberus in FFXI, I experienced an oppressive amount of JP Only in seacom messages and JP players dropping party the instant they realized I was NA. No amount of courtesy, politeness, setup, camp, or {Veteran} could hold them; And this was to do something as common as an EXP party. On the occasion, I would get one to stay and actually talked them into taking the leader position from me and helped him/her on recruiting the rest.

The point is, I've never turned down a single request from any player of any race to do a run-of-the-mill event such as this based on anything personal to them. I wouldn't because I find it interesting to play with people from other lands. I have a pre-conception, (forgive me here), that German and French players aren't so good, but that has never stopped me from letting one join my group. Ever. Bad players from all corners are out there, and not one race deserves to be wholly segregated from the rest because of this fact. It's irritating and I simply cannot understand it. I play MMO's to experience the game with people all over the world and not to be ostracized/excluded because of where I was born.

I've been reluctant to post in this thread, but I decided to throw in my two cents real briefly.

It's true that racism exists in Japan, just like anywhere else in the world, but the reason why the majority of people looking for JP only don't want to party with you is simply because they don't speak English, and as such cannot communicate with you. I can see mixing JP and EN players for routine stuff like spirit bond parties or what have you, but for anything that might require the need to communicate forget it. Personally I have no desire to play with JP players either for the obvious reason that I don't speak Japanese, and I'm quite happy with their decision to open regional servers with the release of A Realm Reborn.

In regards to the auto translator, It really doesn't help much. You may be able to get a few points across, but the truth is, Japanese and English are so different that you can hardly even use a real translation app to read it.

There topic in the JP forums asking for JP Servers and big % of them said no they like playing with people from other part of the world or they don't care. But there a lot that are just racist and just don't want to play with NA there racist everywhere and people need to understand.

It's really a communication issue where JP just don't want to waste time to explain. I know i was in a party with full JP and the leader knew how to type ENG he would explain we going to X,Y and killing A,B,C but sadly not a lot of JP or NA don't want to waste time to explain to someone who does not understand them which i understand.

Just something we have to deal with when 2.0 come out there be dungeon finder so you could just play with other people from other worlds i think that would fix most of the issue we having.

The vocal minority is what gets the attention most of the time anyway. there was a thread where some JP players made some racist remark apparently (didn't read that one myself) and immediately people on an English thread went into "yeah, typical JP behavior" mode.

Now another "jponly" pops up and people show their "typical EN behavior" and start making racist remarks towards the Japanese. Everyone's happy?

That's the thing. I usually end up playing during JP hours. With "JP only" parties going around, it's impossible for me to play the game. I can craft, I can gather and I can solo level. If I wanted to solo, I wouldn't play a MMO.

For the record, I have never made a "EN only" party and if I did, a few JP friends of mine might burn me alive.

Has there been a similar thread on the EN forums asking for language-specific servers? I bet a lot of us would choose all-inclusive servers, especially because they're bringing some to NA. I'm sure there are going to be prejudiced players from all regions. There's simply no getting around that short of forcing parties not to deny invites, but that would completely wreck the game and probably make the problem worse.

I think my biggest concern now is that I've been hearing about the localized servers in each region. People will flock to their nearest server and it will lead to de facto segregation. I'm sure there will be more than a few NA that end up on a mostly-JP server and have trouble getting anything done because of it. I can speak a little Japanese, but not enough to be able to read their kanji-filled shouts. Normally I can make out the katakana for Hamlet or Aurum Vale, but it's hard to know which classes they're looking for. If I got stuck on a server that was 75% JP, I don't know that I'd be able to get nearly as much done as I do (which already isn't much) simply because I'm too lazy/non-fluent/self-conscious to try and communicate.

If I'm wrong on this localized server thing, then cool. I like the JP, but I have my limits.

I'm not. What I'm defending are my Japanese friends who have absolutely no problems with communicating with non-Japanese people that get labeled with the same "xenophobic JP"-tag by some people.

Okay..yes I understand completely what you are saying I think. They are similar in the aspect that both single people out, yes? I realize this..but that is why I also said that everyone can level up all their jobs if they choose. It is a bit different to single people out because of a language that folks can't really learn in a couple weeks, vs leveling a job which is much easier to do.

What you have to consider is the reasons why learning a language is so hard. Just like Japanese appears hard to you, so does English appear hard to many Japanese. Not only do they use a different alphabet, they are also very different phonetically. That's one of the reasons why for example an American trying to speak Japanese for the first time will mess up completely, same for Japanese speaking English.

Now comes the cultural difference: while in most Western countries it's believed to better be able to somehow do something even if it's bad, the Eastern culture seems to have a mindset of "doing it correctly, or do not bother entirely". Which leads to people who have a gift for learning a language learning English, while the rest just knows a few words.

That's right.. and no one expects you to. They merely tell you they want people who can speak Japanese only... if you don't, don't join, why get up in flames over it?

For some reason people interpret that as a personal insult of some sort. It just happened that English has become a de facto "world language", but that doesn't mean you can expect everyone to speak it... just like you can't expect everyone to speak any language.

I don't condone "specific language/race only" or "job only" crap, or whatever it is..its all nonsense to me...I will play with anyone, anytime, anywhere..that is why I am playing FFXIV..I love diversity Invite me to anything and I'm down.
