No, considering the problem here seems to be with Japanese players, despite popular belief taking the time to actually try and communicate goes a long way. You'll run into very few Japanese people who won't even give a chance if you try communicating, just not google translate communication lol. The AT is still far too limited and terms aren't all the same otherwise more JP would actually use it.

    This thread is ridiculous.

I don't know what is worse, the justification that asking for a specific job is the exact same as asking for a certain race of people, or the fact that you honestly think that they are even remotely the same.

You get assholes in every culture, and Japanese people who call for a group and kick for being english/german/french (etc) are assholes.

If you want only Japanese players, then state it. Don't just kick people without a word of justification. Stop defending assholes for being assholes.

Oh and the whole "Europe is basically the same as NA!" had me rolling.

What I am saying is, JP too often dont try to communicate in a language other than their own. We who care to communicate find ourselves using Google or other translation software if we lack better Japanese speaking ability because the majority of Japanese people dont care to communicate wont. It goes in all directions.

And I know it is not all people who are like this. I know of one JP person on my server who only speaks and understands Japanese, but will use google translate along with me.

@OP: Once you realize that the issue isn't the game and it's actually just dealing with RL people/players, you'll understand the world is like that in general. People either use tools to overcome these obstacles or stick to easier methods of communication.

You'll have to deal with it as you would have to IRL(unless you learn their language), just find a solution or stick to find friendlier players. NOT all players are the same, remove yourself from the online mentality and be more rational. Maturity plays a big part of being in a MMO, player will be people and not NPCs(with is entirely confused some-what).

(if only i can invite npcs to my party, wouldn't that make this mmorpg better?)

The humane approach is understanding how much the world can be self-ish/cruel and much the world can be self-less/ sweet.

Ultimately respect for for other players (especially the pty leader)needs to be given at all times because he/she is thinking of their party and what's best for them. Say "Understood" and move on, who knows.. they'll probably consider you next time in the future!

It's mostly a comfort issue since JP > English isn't as easy as other languages, especially in XIV due to it's localization -- The team also is pretty skilled so you know it's not really anyone's fault other than the material they have to work with. Most JP as it was said knows basic English, this is why basic stuff is understandable but having a full on convo isn't likely unless they bothered to take more english classes (or practiced) than needed since realistically, you won't need English living in Japan lol.

Since you're generally playing a Japanese MMO, that's what I was referring to since like I said it just seems like the issue is toward/about JP, rather than a general language barrier issue.

Whoaaa this isn't locked yet :O Haha I am surprised...

It's not about that. While some JP players limit their party to Japanese speaking people only, they mostly accept any class or job as long as you are good at it. EN parties just go "lol melee dps? who needs that in this encounter? gtfo". It's usually the Japanese who prove over and over again that those encounters can be cleared with any job and having fun doing it instead of the rest just sticking to the "safe" setups.
Okay..yes I understand completely what you are saying I think. They are similar in the aspect that both single people out, yes? I realize this..but that is why I also said that everyone can level up all their jobs if they choose. It is a bit different to single people out because of a language that folks can't really learn in a couple weeks, vs leveling a job which is much easier to do.

It really is not that hard...heck, even my boyfriend who hates mage jobs with a passion leveled up BLM for speed runs. He does school/work full time also. BUT not everyone has the time to learn every foreign language in the world...so that was my only point....

Leveling up a job in a game is more understanding then having to learn and entire new language because people won't use the auto translate function or attempt to communicate. Personally I do not really care..people can do what they want and the reason they do it means nothing to me also.

Sorry not trying to fight here or anything...

I don't condone "specific language/race only" or "job only" crap, or whatever it is..its all nonsense to me...I will play with anyone, anytime, anywhere..that is why I am playing FFXIV..I love diversity Invite me to anything and I'm down.

If it's such a big concern to people, they should just separate English-speaking servers from Japanese. It'll solve all of these problems.

Its important to realize that not all JP players do this. In fact I was searching for a party for "Wanted: Vengeance" and 5/8 members were Japanese. These people had no problem using auto translate phrases and were very kind and patient.

As stated before its just an easier way for someone to complete content without having to take a few extra steps. Those people are just ignorant/lazy or in a hurry, but you will find that its not just the Japanese that do this. It happens with any language barrier.

Why would it be locked? (Other than some people going off into a godzilla rage for no reason) I see this is as a major problem in a game that tries to promote diversity and SOME PEOPLE just don't want to.

Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing
