I believe it doesn't have a "random" or "set time" as such, but simply a button that SE switches to the "ON" location for a 4hr period. I daresay they are planning something quite large scale for the final patch, and this little "event" is simply to make sure the servers don't die in the fiery pit of hell.

As for drop rates, it is random/participation. I don't believe killshot or claim has much to do with it. There are too many conflicting theories behind it.

I dunno, seems like that would be REALLY unfair for people wanting the hats.

And why wouldn't it be good if it's a random event? Ironically GW2 thrives on a sense of randomness.

GW events are not really random , you have to wait something like 3 hours between the map major event and other events start at worse 30 mn after they ended .

It could be weekends only. It's looking very likely at the moment actually.

Sorry, no. Did the event the full 8 hours it was up on the first day, of the 7 hats that dropped to people in my party, all of them came from when my party had claim on the dead elites. And when the other party that was with us got drops, it was when they had claim. If it was purely participation based, I would've gotten a drop after 8 hours and 4 sets of completely broken armor.

There has yet to be a single one of these events that did not piss off a Huge part of the community. People don't know they are happening unless they read the forums, and most people dont read the forums.

How is random exclusionary? By definition, it includes everyone who participates.
