I've never heard of anyone getting the Imperial hats at Castrum Novum. I don't believe you.Haha, clearly did not play XI?
This is the norm for most of the player base. Except it doesn't require sitting for hours with a twitchy finger on a stun macro. IMO it's an improvement.
Also, anyone can go farm these at Castrum Novum at any time (Plus a bunch of other good stuff you can't get from these). There is no difference other than convenience.
Give it a few days and all the bigger LSs will have theirs then the medium LSs then the tiny LSs can team up. By the end of the week there will be shouts for it and then everyone will have forgotten about it.

Farmed the regular level 50 Imperials for over an hour non-stop and nothing happened even when they all despawned. (Oh, by the way they despawned 20 minutes ago)
I'm finding it harder and harder to believe these regular Imperials gave any drops to anyone. especially after a BLM burn a group and I went on a while ago to clear as many of these Imperials as possible between H-1s.
Additionally, I will confirm that you probably will receive nothing from Elite Imperial deaths if you aren't in the party with the claim @ kill. I don't know what is the deal with some of these crazy-sounding claims here.
Only the Elite mobs drop anything...The lead group with the Magitek H-1. Not sure where you people get the if you kill the 50s you get...cause you don't.

Well, let me see here-
One of my party members (small party of 4) just had the Tricorne drop into his loot list. We had claimed no ??? Elites or Magiteck, and definitely didn't kill any. We killed a bunch of level 50 Imperials near Dragonhead, and when all the elites were dead, he got the drop.
Weird. But eh, feels like other people already experimented and deny anything from the regular Imperials.
I'll go with the whole killshot thing on Elites.
What is bad about this event is the fact that the items are so nice. You end up WANTING the item so bad only to be slapped in the face with the horrible truth that chances are...you won't be getting anything for your efforts. From what I've seen only a 3-4 hats drop in the roughly five hour event. If you choose to do this event do not expect a reward.

Honestly, the way loot for this event makes sense to me. Think of it this way- not everyone has access to a decently sized endgame linkshell that has the people to take H-1 down by themselves. But they still want to participate in the event. They go out, and they still have a chance at getting an item. And guess what? That endgame LS has a chance at getting the item too. You're not in an instance where all the items belong to you, you're in the field where other people are fighting along side you. Everyone gets a chance.

From what I've seen, lvl 50 imperials never drop hats. Only elites and the vanguard drop hats. Any elite/vanguard can drop any hat. You'll only get the hat if you have claim when the mob dies.
Did it the whole 4 hours straight, and that's what I was able to determine. Also got the tricorn. :3

Well I dunno, there's this vid that says it goes to the person with the killshot:From what I've seen, lvl 50 imperials never drop hats. Only elites and the vanguard drop hats. Any elite/vanguard can drop any hat. You'll only get the hat if you have claim when the mob dies.

Not sure if it helps anyone, I made a video of the event in Iron lake. Killing the H1, how loot works, etc: https://www.youtube.com/user/smiley7890?feature=mhee
Leashing is "cheezy" but effective for everyone involved.
