I would recommend against TI series Nvidia cards, typically they are down tuned cards compared to lower number GTX cards, a 500TI series typically is outperformed by a 400 series GTX in the simliar mid number range (460GTX 480GTX ect versus 560 580ti's).

IF you can't go with a 680 GTX try a lower series gtx.

Yet those much higher cards you will probably not even come close to needign for XIV. So TI's will be suffcient to run XIV well and save cash for monthly subsciptions.

Umm no, the TI version of the cards is the fastest, if you had said SE version you would have had a valid point.

The SE versions of the cards have disabled a shader cluster compared to the non SE versions, and depending on the series also lower memory interface bus.

In short, the SE versions is the least performance oriented, then comes the normal version and finally the TI is the top performing version (not counting overclocked versions).

Been using a MSI factory OCd card for years now, without any problems. If it crashes, it's faulty and that can happen with non-OCd components too.

The advantage of factory OC is that the manufacturer guarantees you it will work at those clocks. If it doesn't, then you get a replacement, simple as that.

I'd go for a 660Ti at this point, the 600 series have good performance and are more efficient than 400/500 series. In the end, paying more for a 660Ti will be outweighted by the power costs a cheaper 500 series will cause.

Depends on the cash you have available, budget versus performance and chaeck bench reviews. I have dual GPU cards, and it is such an over kill even in 1.0 it's not worth the money just for this game.

Unless you are running PCI-E 3.0+ boards, you do not need top line cards, and even then it has marginal increase in games like this with 3.0 and 3.0+ matched cards.

Built a new system, went through benches, great in tests, no performance increase in XIV over the previous combo.

480's had great performance for their time, but stear away and go with budget midline 600 seris cards if doign Nvidia. 480 GTX OC's out performed most 500 series, but run hot as hell and are nto the best chip to be over clocked in the first place. 500ti offer a cutt down in throttle at a lower cost.

you really dont have to go buy a top tier card. im running FFXIV on the highest settings with x4AA with a radeon hd 5850. hell this card can run battlefield 3 at high settings with ease.

Well providing there is support for Crossfire, I'll be using a pair of HD 6850s.

I've heard that ATI cards run better with AMD processors (i have a 6 core 2.9ghz) but I typically use Nvidia cards. If anyone has some advice on a purchase, would be appreciated. I usually use newegg or tigerdirect btw. Thanks

For the record, you're not going to need to upgrade to play 2.0. A Realm Reborn is going to run better on your system than the current version will.

The basic gist of the brand battle at the present time: If you want good PhysX physics rendering, nvidia card. If you want better performance outside of that, AMD has the top cards at the moment. And the only reason Nvidia handles physics better is because Nvidia owns PhysX and they added a "feature" to their drivers that won't allow physX rendering to run on AMD cards (It still works in software but they won't update the software PhysX algortithms, making it run very slowly on all but the most top of the line system).

Each brand dominates at different points in time, but PhysX is basically Nvidia's monopolistic trump card.

Also not many games actually use Nvidia's "PhysX", games like FFXIV use CPU physics.

I perfer ATI cards though since they usually run cooler, cost less and performance better.

I'd agree with you, but for the 600 series, that's no longer true. The only thing going for ati ATM is the price, they're actually hotter than nvidia now
