But people will do that regardless, gear score will just make it "easier" to see. People who are that type of player will still check your gear and tell you what they think, the fact that there is a score to look at or not is indifferent. As long as its just there to help people not lock people out of content I'm fine with it. Its when people start saying you have to have xxx gear to do content or join a LS, the latter is worse because it will ensure new players can't get the gear score needed to join a LS.

I think it's actually a good thing. For certain events (*coughGARUDAcough*), you NEED your gear to match up to certain minimum stats or you won't be able to put out the dps necessary to survive. Other events like Ifrit (Hard)... well let's just say there are all-swimsuit class runs of that guy. I'm not seeing any naked swimsuits runs on Garuda!
GLD is not GLA! But apparently, it IS GSM!
The best part about arguments like this? Yoshida already said in ARR the current strategies and balance isn't the same as it will be in ARR.I think it's actually a good thing. I also found it funny how someone said "Level capping will split/segregate/fracture the community", gearscore will do it, not level capping.

No thanks, because I dont care about gears, I care about stats.
Darklight Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets and Sollerets... good stuff, right? Maybe we'll reach over 9000 gear score with this, but there is not a single bit of accuracy on it. A melee with this stuff and some other str/attack-only jewelery is highly susceptible to be a miss machine against an enemy with high evasion, even if his gear score is high.
Another example, against Garuda, let's say you take a War to tank and another War to DD and kill the plumes. You'll want the former to have tank gear, and the latter to have DD gear. Gear score alone doesnt tell you what they have.
There is an obvious loss of information going from multiple numbers (attack, accuracy, etc.) to only one.
Another way to put it : gear score already exists, it's called stats, and it's more accurate.

Not to mention Food, potions, materia and other items that maybe available such as Overaspected crystals and lunar curtains that can effect performance as well.No thanks, because I dont care about gears, I care about stats.

Understandable, though here's my take on it. People who are running high-level instances and events will already have an elitist attitude towards gear, and will usually have the knowledge and experience to know what is needed for each class. Gear Score was implemented initially to give those passionate players who want to run high-level instances, but do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of every class and armor configuration. It basically lets more people make better grouping decisions by simply looking at a number, and I think it's good for the most part.
When it starts to get overly abused however is when I start to get frustrated with it. World of Warcraft was the worst offender mainly because of the size of the population, but when every guild adopts a gear score limit there's basically a barrier of progress and entry for anyone making their way up the levels and progressing through the end content. I'm making my way through FFXIV now, and many LinkShells have level requirements of 50 which is understandable. If they limited application to even stricter limits then I don't see how I would get there with PUGs. Regardless I think its good information to have right in the game, however all information can be abused one way or another.

I'd rather have this removed again =.=
Im all for UI mods / addons etc, however...one thing that took the fun out of WoW was just this...
Gear Score, it just ruined it alot of things.
Still it had pretty decent purpose, it more or less showed what kind of
gear quality you needed to survive certain dungeons, fights etc.
But somewhere along the line it turned for the worse, and players not meeting
the requirements for X Gear-score was left behind, or left out of raids etc.
There's no progress in this if missused.
not sure i want it or not.
If this "Gear Score" we have in ARR is anything like the version WoW has then this will end up being a disaster. If it comes to a point where you can just slap on the highest ilvl item to make it go up then that is also a poor job at itemization. No one really knows how the content will be in ARR just yet but FF was one of the few games that proved skill > gear when it come to being able to do content. I'm afraid this may come to an end with ARR but we dont know yet. One thing we do know is there will be the "Content Finder" and im sure the gear score will end up playing a big part in what you are gated from.
What you see is true. There will be a gear score and it will have an impact on the "Content finder" and there WILL be gated pug content. Embrace it for now until we know more about it in the future. Pugs will always be pugs.

I can see how this can be abused, I tried to join a pick-up group yesterday for Garuda, the party leader proceeded to play 20 questions with me, from how far did I get in the fight to whether or not I had teamspeak. even though I appeared to meet all thier criteria, they chose not to invite me, I never even recieved a response, so I'm not even sure why they turned me down.
