This might be a dumb thread but what's the point of giving us titles if we can't see them displayed somewhere around our names. Unless I'm missing the option of display or just overlooked it in the menu.

Think its under attributes.
But you must first talk to an NPC to unlock the category.
Sorry forgot where that npc is now.
Edit:
Woops, kinda missunderstood. >.< /mybad99char

{edit} I see the OP was talking about current titles, not speculating how they might change in 2.0.
They might get added to your names. Along with a persons ability to turn them on or off. I feel that's the smartest way for SE to address it. Some people find that titles can "clutter" the UI with names and such, and if that's the case, fine, disable them in the menu. For those who don't mind, perhaps they will be visible next to / under a persons name.
Alternatively, it might be like XI where you can see a persons title upon inspection.
Once you achieve a title you need to see the NPC that actually awards it to you, There is an NPC near Horizon and one in the Gold Saucer that once you speak with them will officially award you the title. Then under Menu >> Attributes >> the button for titles should be enabled and you can choose which title to display. HTH
They are viewable whenever you check someone.

Well it's still 1.0 , we even have to talk to NPC to unlock achievements , it's better not to know why it's how it is =)
In ARR, titles will be displayed under character name.
After you have obtained a title you will need to go see the achievement NPC to select that title as your title under your attributes menu > titles. Those titles which you have obtained and recieved from npcs will be available to change at your leisure unlike in Xi where you had to pay a bard to change title or do the event to obtain the title.
