Seriously, though, how many of you think that 2.0 takes place in an alternate dimension, and the appearance of Atomos foreshadows that plot twist? I know I do! Although I could always be terribly, horribly, embarrassingly wrong....

You may be onto something here Jin, you can see Gramps in the Fate of Eorzea trailer casting some sort of spell so i wouldnt say that isnt a possibility.

We know the old man is going to send us into the future, I just theorize he gets the idea from Atomos. Maybe he already summoned atomos for us, but didn't expect the void beings to come out of it. Maybe he did.

Maybe it was all the Wandeing Minstels fault, or Baelsar's the true master mind behind all of it. We'll never know till it happens at once.

So back to the future from that past that is present, but the future is changed because we came back from the present day past?

Indeed, in fact from this we can deduce that the future itself is no longer an alternate future but the present past because interdimensionally we cannot speak of past since it did not occur in the current dimension. But that is assuming we are in the current dimension's present since we cannot for certain claim that we have already lived this dimension's past non-interdimensionally as we could possibly already be in this dimension's future unaware that we will be ported into the other dimension's present or possibly even future, which would be the present of the past.
