So basically, I can keep playing if I want, but anything I accomplish will be gone. I think not. You're going to lose a massive amount of players saying either a) you can't play for 2 months, particularly over the holiday when a lot of people have time off, or b) you can play, but we're just going to wipe out anything you accomplish.

It should not be that hard to migrate character data to the new system. People that play want to keep playing. I log in and fish in my spare time, or level some jobs, ie make progress in the game. That is completely pointless if you're just going to wipe it. It's like playing FF1 half way through, then the battery in your cartridge dies and you have to start over.

There has to be another way.

You obviously don't understand databases then; and since they are actually changing the database provider (don't ask how I know); it requires more work than you think.

Since XIV is the ONLY mmo in history to relaunch a entirely NEW system which includes some of the following:
Server structure
Database provider and design
Zones
Assets
Music

You might want to cut them a little slack. If this break means the whiners don't come back; I'll be happy. The games been rough; but I'm glad I was here to experience the entire thing from start to finish.

Seriously though, it's taking as long as it is taking for reasons we can only guess at. The game will loose a few subs probably, but it will retain many, many more. I think curiosity at the very least will bring back most who leave, and I'm sure Square Enix isn't going to let us forget about it. I plan on finishing up any number of games I have put on hold, maybe finally finishing up that iOS game I was working on last summer. Who knows, the break may do everyone some good, let us look at ARR with fresh eyes, as it were.
