Well it's a game so gameplay should be first in game no ?because time and time again we see how far focusing on gameplay gets you, its the developers easy card is what it is. if the story isn't engaging, if the game cant hold your attention then gameplay is worth nothing. SWTOR had good gameplay but it was gd repetitive it didn't mean nothing same with Aion. FFXIV had something different i liked it. now it simply aims to be like all the rest.
i subbed FF14 for a year, now i wish i could just get all my money back. from what i see the chances of me playing FF14 2.0 is very slim
If having too much realistic animation makes the gameplay suck then the game will sucks .
if you want to have good animation stuffs and good graphics it's not in games but in movies and other videos .
God forbid the team makes sacrifices to make your gameplay experience worthwhile...
But we all know animation and graphics make the game and nothing else in between.
I also play with a controller and macros, (as all of my RL friends do) and i assume the controls of the new animation would be really, really awkward with a controller due to fixed speed of the analogue sticks...That's very awkward actually, and a reason I have a hard time playing "most MMOs."
It's SO much easier to just be able to turn my character around and dash off in another direction immediately the way FFXIV is now than to spin my camera all the way around before I can move. >.> That's just a step backwards in game design if you ask me.
(And you assumed I play with a keyboard and mouse. I actually have to play with a controller due to a hand injury. :3 I can't play more than an hour or so a day with a keyboard and mouse.)
My gameplay experience was just fine all they had to do is nix the lag, But hell no lets make it as run of the mill as possible.
they didn't said that your char won't automatically ( i spelled it correctly ? ) change his direction to run while using a controller.
Btw the ability to move backward while still facing the ennemy is also a good thing for the gameplay , to avoid skills that would do more damages from behind and such ...
My point was about the importance of Aesthetics, and why its importance to not just cut them out of the game. FFXI did an amazing job with aesthetics, as seen in the video, the reflections on the water surface, trees shedding leafs, the birds, the weather, the airship scenery and this is an MMO from 10 years ago. Its the small attention to detail that made Vana'diel so amazing, in my opinion at least. This is a feature that FFXIV currently greatly lacks, remember the water when taking a ship? no scenery on airship, and the one thing the game did have was the movement animation, it was amazingly done and aesthetically pleasing.
How disappointing would it be to have this amazing waterfall scenery in ARR but no waterfall animation. I can understand removing movement animation if it effects gameplay, especially now that they are adding PVP. I Just want them to pay some attention to Aesthetics, sure its useless in terms of gameplay but its an important feature imo.

And that's exactly the problem. They didn't say much of anything. All we have to look at is a game-play video with horrible sideways/backwards walking/running. We're left to worry and wonder, "It's not going to be like this, right?"
We have no idea if we can just turn and immediately run in another direction like we can now.
I really would like to know and have my mind put at ease.

There shouldn't have to be sacrifices. And no one is calling it as you paraphrased. It's not as if those of us wishing to keep detailed animations were against a better gameplay experience; we've been right there with you, begging for improvements. So when the tables are turned and we've had our wonderfully unnoticed animations taken away, you're okay with turning face and saying "Well, as long as I've got my gameplay..?"
Yeah it's important that a game have a souls but here peoples are complaining because moving animation became of less quality .My point was about the importance of Aesthetics, and why its importance to not just cut them out of the game. Square will give a soul to their game but if moving animations make the gameplay suck and don't give any more beauty to the soul i can live without .
