Thanks for supporting, i do find time and read your posts in the middle of all this mess... you made some good points today.
Really? Cuz I've reviewed the footage countless times and only see the DRG running and immediately stop. Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough. Regardless, I am more comparing 1.0 to ARR. It should be closer to that level of fluidity. From what we've seen ARR does have subtler (shorter) animation cues for stopping, however the stop is sometimes so abrupt that you don't see it. You don't just go from full stride to both legs standing upright in a single frame.
I'll agree that it would be nice to have them but at the same point if they don't I'm not going to give it another thought. I mean they know as well as we all do that 2.0 needs to be spectacular. Do you really think they'd make a decision like this lightly? If they're saying that they came to the conclusion that they needed to remove them then they probably really did need to remove them for one reason or the other. They've got more on the line, hinging upon 2.0's success than we do. This is their job and if they put out an awful product they could be out of a job, especially considering the weight put upon the success of 2.0.
I also agree that they probably didn't come to the decision to eliminate the animations lightly. There really must be a good reason. Part of me hopes that they simply didn't take them out due to time constraints and western MMO expectations, because I honestly don't buy the gameplay vs animation issue. With our voices heard, I am hoping SE sees that movement animations really were something players enjoyed about their avatars, and that they could find a workaround to their "gameplay" issue.

Thanks Nemy. You made great points while I've been away over the weekend as well (answering to many posts with arguments I would have used myself). My only advice is to try and keep the thread focused. As the grand master of this thread, you should be protecting it from straying off-topic. Instead you are only letting your emotions get the better of you by trying too hard to defend yourself. Sometimes you have to let sarcasm run its course and get back on topic. Hell, even I got into it with Kiri, but it just got too funny in the end and just let it go. Keep up the good fight, but focus your thread, and I'll be in your corner.

To be totally honest, your apology coming in the middle of this whole thing with Kiria, may had something to do with how i responded to it.
Apology accepted, let's move on.
Or find something else to do today, sometimes i wish i didn't have so much free time.
A step toward friendship, now that's what I like =).
*I may unblock you =)*
I love the current animations and part of why I play the games I do are the visuals.
I actively dislike other games where the character appears to be gliding along 2 inches above the ground and there is no sense of mass or inertia...
It alone isn't enough to make or break my enjoyment of a game but it is a strong contributing factor.
I expect my SE games to look good so I am currently unhappy with the 2.0 animations.
i have to admit i am sad to see these animations go i loved the feel that my char had some kind of weight to him (even tho i am a taru..i mean lalafell) but i could see the reasons behind this being there would probably be issues in combat at least with no animation lock making the models go weird and in strange shapes when moving doing a ws but still if that is the case remove it from the battle system (Active Mode) and leave it in passive mode. We also have got to remember 2.0 is using a new engine not the same as what we have now but as stated other MMO's do have this and makes your char feel alive well at least a little. At the end of the day you look at you character 100% of the time its always on the screen and while i do like they are putting there main focus on the gameplay aspect this still is a very small thing to keep in the game.
My vote is they keep the animations or at least say they will be added in the near future things like this is what drew me to FFXIV obviously not entirely but this is just like WoW dead character models with no feeling in them at all if FFXIV is going to become a generic WoW clone then count me out if i wanted WoW i would be playing WoW.
Man I completely agree, removing this makes your character look like a puppet. Plus I agree with the fact that it does pull you away from your character. But yes this is only alpha and I hope this thread stays a live until they fix it. My lasting appeal lvl just went down lol
That's server lag. The server thinks you are still moving. It does affect movement in battle though, especially for mages. If a mage has to stop and quickly cast they can't because this animation has to finish and you can't cast while moving. This animation really seems like it only exists to cover up the fact that the servers don't know when you've actually stopped, so you do a little half-step instead of just sliding to a halt. Right now when you let go of the movement key you can't cast right away because you are still considered to be moving.
Anyway, they could just override the animation if that was even the case to begin with, which it was never.
