If the Animation has Animation Lock, then yes it "can" effect gameplay. Hardcores won't see this as an issue, but Casuals may have an issue with it. When your doing a Animation lock thats 2-3 seconds long and facing Bosses like Ifrit, even a Good player has to get the "timing" down and knowing when to use it. So when you put it in that aspect, Yes Animation does effect gameplay. If there's no Animation Lock, then it has no effect on gameplay.

At least World of Warcraft has "idle" animations where your character will look around. We just blink.

If Square-Enix has to conform to this, good.
I'd take the current running animations of FFXIV over any other game even if all the NPC's were active members of Circus Medrano.

My running character is in my face 80% of the time, not them.

if done correctly, animations can and should be able to be canceled with no effort, just by doing something else. if you start doing that polish stop running animation and you click to use an action, that polish animation will stop and execute the action. that same concept eliminates animation lock and im sure thats one of the big reasons why they rebuilt the game engine so im sure its possible. since this is the case, animations will not affect gameplay at all.
but if for some strange and horrible reason, they rebuilt the engine and didnt make canceling animations possible to eliminate animation lock then yes gameplay over animations.

Hard to say GW2 is so amazing in that dept when ARR looks quite similar.
I was the one who mentioned GW2 and it's animations being better. I guess ARR's animations imprinted itself on my memory as something utterly awkward, so my short GW2 test felt more positive. I didn't see the horrible strafing animation for example.

Lets see what the gw2 community says about, what I like to call the treadmill effect. Which will be in 2.0 you can clearly see it in the videos. https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/foru...rst#post133827

The FFXIV community: They would rather have the game delayed for another 2 months to have "better" character animations.

    Stay classy.

Nice try. The animations are already in game. Don't remove them and there will be no delay.

That was a really creative idea.

Ironically, what you described, is actually classy.

Someone unfamiliar with the sarcastic internet use of "stay classy", could read it without any degree of sarcasm, and make absolute sense.

    Stay classy /v/

It doesn't really work that way. They had a reason to remove them, and reapplying them to the existing game probably needs some work. But i'm classy enough to wait for them to do that work before releasing the game.
