    Very true. Now that they have the gameplay pillars to stand on, adding a bit of animation polish isn't really much to ask for with the lag issue fixed and reworked from the ground up (which is obviously the true reason for animation lock). FFXIV 1.0's elongated animation sequences were put in place to mask the amount of lag the game was experiencing. Hence, why the term "animation lock" even exists (a term invented out of thin air for this game alone). It was a problem in FFXI too, but was of a less critical problem due to its slower battle pace. ARR needs its own unique and subtler (shorter) animation cues for stopping, turning or landing that fit the new engine's capabilities.

    From what we've seen ARR does have subtler (shorter) animation cues for stopping, however the stop is sometimes so abrupt that you don't see it. You don't just go from full stride to both legs standing upright in a single frame.

    I'll agree that it would be nice to have them but at the same point if they don't I'm not going to give it another thought. I mean they know as well as we all do that 2.0 needs to be spectacular. Do you really think they'd make a decision like this lightly? If they're saying that they came to the conclusion that they needed to remove them then they probably really did need to remove them for one reason or the other. They've got more on the line, hinging upon 2.0's success than we do. This is their job and if they put out an awful product they could be out of a job, especially considering the weight put upon the success of 2.0.

    Really? Cuz I've reviewed the footage countless times and only see the DRG running and immediately stop. Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough. Regardless, I am more comparing 1.0 to ARR. It should be closer to that level of fluidity.

    I also agree that they probably didn't come to the decision to eliminate the animations lightly. There really must be a good reason. Part of me hopes that they simply didn't take them out due to time constraints and western MMO expectations, because I honestly don't buy the gameplay vs animation issue. With our voices heard, I am hoping SE sees that movement animations really were something players enjoyed about their avatars, and that they could find a workaround to their "gameplay" issue.

    I don't get why people settle for EITHER aesthetics OR gameplay. Why not both? And no, they're not mutually exclusive.

    The issue with unnecessary steps when trying to position yourself is not animation, but server response/latency. Just like character running further than you intend to. This should be solved with the new engine being written for MMOs and also with the introduction of regional servers.

    So please stop saying animations are making the game unresponsive. They don't. It's merely aesthetics.

    It's one or the other with this generation of MMORPG players. Can you blame em though? They either played MMOs with shitty graphics that a 1st year intern could do better, or they played MMOs with a great graphical appeal and repetitive gameplay (TERA).

    Only reason people say this is because "Well reviewers said this!"...reviewers didn't realize it wasn't the graphics making those issues happen, it was the engine which the company who made it stated it wasn't optimized for MMOs. I guarantee they couldn't explain how the game that is supposedly unresponsive due to animations started getting much more responsive throughout 2011 without them changing anything regarding how animations worked.
