Rainy with a chance of meatballs, and a sprinkle of Zombie Apocalypses, and A hint of forum goers developing a typhoon over the Pacific over an incomplete movement animation that just needs polish.
(that last part is because you accused me of predicting the future, when all i did was exactly what Nemy said)

While I understand the concern, and most certainly encourage people to let the developers know when there's something about the game that they don't like, I don't think this topic warrants the amount of discussion that it's gotten. I agree, the animations look choppy and stiff, but I think you definitely have to keep in mind that this is a pre-alpha build.
Making video games is harder than most people realize, and the fact that they haven't polished the animations at this point isn't surprising. They've only had, what, a year and a half to completely remake an entire game? Making it the first time took several years and the ARR team has not only been making the new version, but has also been improving on and updating the current version.
I think I know how Louis C.K. feels now. :P
I love you just for the fact that you linked Louis. I love the guy, but what he says there doesn't really apply here. Technology doesn't take steps backwards, and we're certainly not talking about animations not being polished. Its a completely new approach to animation. (and of course controls now, since backpedaling affects controling) Even polished, it would be way worse than what we have. While I understand the concern, and most certainly encourage people to let the developers know when there's something about the game that they don't like, I don't think this topic warrants the amount of discussion that it's gotten. I've been taking some time to pore over gameplay videos and I have to say, I mostly agree with you on the movement. I thought it was only for when you locked on to a target like it is in 1.0 now, but I started to notice that you can't point your camera in one direction and have your character moving full speed in the other direction anymore. This is one of the reasons I hate having the game lock on to my target at odd times.I love you just for the fact that you linked Louis. I really hope this change isn't permanent. If it is, it's going to take me a very long time to get used to, and I'm severely going to miss being able to look over my shoulder as I'm running away.![]()
You can't really look at something and automatically know it's not finalised, just because it looks bad.
For all you know, the developers could just be lazy.
It's not a very scientific approach to go off hunches, and wishful thinking, and then call it a logical cognitive process.
It looks on par with other MMOs you could download and play this very moment...so....
Exactly, and sadly SE probably can't be bothered going above and beyond when they can just be lazy and preserve the status quo, whereas in version 1.0, they actually did go above and beyond. V1.0 basically looks better than ARR.
Not really. If they polish it, it could maybe look on par with other mmos, and yet still be outdated since GW2's animation is closer (but still pretty far) to what we currently have in 1.0.
Just to make this clear, polishing means fine tuning. The core way of movement would remain the same. Removing the backpedaling for example, is not polishing. Its changing.
So even polished, the animation of FFXIV, would go from absolutely best animation ever implemented in an mmo, to an already outdated one. (I also tend to believe that most if not all of the problems the animation seemed to be causing to fights like Ifrit, was due to connection lag)
