Why is it that ArenaNet has no problem coding Guild Wars 2 avatars with fluid stop/land animations while still maintaining lag-free gameplay? Here's your example. Also notice that, at about 5 minutes in, even in battle there is still somewhat of a foot positioning animation of about 1-2 seconds. Doesn't affect gameplay at all. Explain that SE.

Basically, if GW2 can do it, why the $%@# can't FFXIV?! SE needs to look at GW2 and stop looking at WoW for this and many other reasons.

For the trolls: Why don't I go play that game, you say? I do. I also play many other games.
Thank you so much for this example, i'm actually impressed by GW animation. Still not as good as the current FFXIV one, but miles ahead what we see in 2.0 so far. This would be a really solid argument against the notion that we need to downgrade the animation in order to get better gameplay especially when using a game that emphasizes manual dodges of hostile skills, as an example.

    You're truly an asset Zai.

-Generally inertia is gone, and it looks like a downgraded version of what we currently have and/or a generic animation from any other game of this genre.

UPDATE : It also looks like the character is forced to backpedal instead of running backwards, without having its camera locked to a target. (someone in the thread mentioned it, and now it seems to be confirmed)

UPDATE : Seems like the downgrade was intended after all, so i'm currently asking if there's any way of improving the 2.0 animation, to be less of a downgrade, and why you had to also remove the current animations for passive mode?

SUGGESTION : If there is no other solution to animation lock..., Keep the current animation for passive mode, and remove them for active mode.
I totally agree with you, and the dev's answer about it sounds like an excuse...

I don't think that these animations could damage the gameplay, as they intend.

I swear some of you are acting like spoild children throwing a hissy fit because someone took away a toy that you've never showed appreciation for. In the two years that FFXIV has been out I've never heard a single person comment about how much they loved the movement animations. I doubt that prior to the 2.0 gameplay footage being released that the was a single person who glaced out there character and said "OMG the movements are so life like, look at how he/she stops and starts when I move them around."

    Just one example:

But many people have enjoyed it for a long time. Just because they're not singing praise all the time doesn't mean something wasn't appreciated. I think many posts here in this thread prove that it was.

Personally, I've never commented on it but always loved how characters moved.

What's that one song? "You Don't Know What's You've Got til It's Gone." You don't have to sing it out in praise, that's not where I'm coming from. However what I do feel is this: though it is an rpg and a Final Fantasy Title, it is an MMO first. So things are going to be added, as well as taken away. People should know by now, and considering this is SE we're talking about, If we don't take note of and voice the aspects that are in the current verion that appreciate and like, then we have no rght to get upset should it be altered or taken away. It's just like the child and the neglected toy analogy I used. But that's just my op.

    Actually...

I specifically mentioned it in this post last month What Do You Love Most About Final Fantasy XIV (before I saw the Limit Break video and this topic erupted).
"- Realistic movement of characters... This really makes it feel more like a fantasy world than just a video game"

I also mentioned in in August 2011:
"- Animation and Graphics: I'm still amazed by the visuals, even close to 1 year later. I actually like the scenery and don't mind running around Eorzea instead of teleporting."

Now with the dev response, I am slightly disappointed. Certainly, if this is the same animation they keep for ARR, I would definitely feel something missing from the game that I instinctively would have felt during 1.0. Very saddenning.

It seems like people on here go out of their way to try to find something insignificant to complain about. Make a big deal about it post multiple topics. When its really nothing big at all. I can't see the big deal with people complaining about character movement. If you ask me to compare the 2 versions I would say the 2nd one looks better due to better backgrounds and more responsive character movements.

I seen everything complained about on here, jumping, content finder, questing for exp, instanced dungeons, gearscore. Some people in the FFXIV community like to complain about any kind of change if it was up to you guys you keep everything like it is in 1.0, which the majority of the mmo gaming community wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.

Welcome to this generation of MMO players, they will find and complain about anything these days. The thing is, because devs are currently replying to the player base, then the player base seems to think they hold power over the devs, so they spam complaints after complaints after complaints. You get used to it after awhile but 98% of FFXIV forums are full of trash complaints.

2.0 looks great and they have had to put ALOT of work into it, they spent 2yrs trying to fix the game when they could have just trashed it because it was that bad, but instead they decided to spend a fortune on trying to fix the game so that Final Fantasy players could enjoy a more upto date MMO instead of the now old-ish FFXI.

Hats off to Yoshida and his team, it seems they really have pulled off the impossible.
