So I've taken a look at the (lack of) animations in question and I'm really not seeing what the huge deal is. Like I said before maybe I just don't get this "immersion" thing as well as I should but it doesn't look like it would detract from the experience for me. The stops are more abrupt, that's about it. They still do have a little half-step in there but because of how quick it is you often don't see it.
I just don't see this as much of a deal breaker. Watching the video I still feel as immersed as I ever have watching anything with FFXIV. I didn't even notice the lack of this animation until it was pointed out, even though I watched every video we've got for 2.0.
The animations in 1.0 are a bit longer but I really don't see why this warrants a 600+ post discussion with people raging fairly hard over the dev's decision. Maybe it's just me though but I don't see it.
It's okay, you simply don't observe / value things other people do. Its not a mystery. So I've taken a look at the (lack of) animations in question and I'm really not seeing what the huge deal is. I just hope the majority does not share your opinion, because then, there is no hope for us.

Aion Zwei - Masamune

What Nemy said. You simply value different parts of the game differently. For me, I think of Llen moving in that janky way, possibly losing the ability to track things with her eyes. Maybe she loses the smooth catlike running she has, or the seriously over-done hip swing of her walk. Maybe sitting down or getting back up isn't done as smoothly. What I see when I picture those things is a loss of a connection from myself to my character. So I've taken a look at the (lack of) animations in question and I'm really not seeing what the huge deal is. That extends to other player characters too. If they feel alive, I can more easily see them as real people, and I can connect with them better. For people like me, it's the little things that all add up to making the game, and your character, feel really alive.
In any case, I'm glad your excitement hasn't been hampered by Rukirii's post. I was champing at the bit for 2.0 until today. Now... I desperately need to play it, but only to make sure that my Llen is still the Llen I know and love.
Totally just disqualified myself for alpha access xD
but some times a litle more aesthetic makes gameplay sucks a lot , and that's the case here .
If there was no problems with that SE wouldn't have changed it that much .It cost them more time to modify the game for the new animations for little result ( except the possibility to walk backward while facin an ennemy .
This thread exemplifies everything that is wrong with this forum community.
[Person A] starts a thread complaining about [topic] they anticipate but has no way of proving.
25 pages later, 50% agreeing with [Person A] and demanding an explanation from SE about why [Topic] is the way it is. Other 50% disagreeing with [Person A] but agreeing with [Person B] that this is only because it's in pre-alpha.
25 pates later, discussion then proceeds to why "pre-alpha" argument suits/doesn't suit the purpose of this discussion, and continues to demand a response from SE for [topic] that [Person A] decides an answer is needed for.
SE provides a response on [topic]. 25 pages later, 50% agreeing with SE that [topic response] is valid and justified and why the game will succeed, and 50% disagreeing that [topic response] is the reason that this game will fail.
Can we please just wait for Alpha and Beta to have these discussions, and provide feedback in the standard way? This is giving me a headache...
