You will get to play on the server type you want. It just won't be immediate. Just relax, and it will come. They know a lot of people are going to want to switch, and the new servers will have a low pop initially, and they've said before that we will get a one time transfer to another world if we want it.It pisses me off that I won't get to play on the server type I want to play on. I never liked the mixed servers to start with and especially don't want to play on one that's designated JP.
Also it seems like we will be likely charged $25 extra to server transfer like they do on FFXI. Making it a another con for not being able to move at relaunch.
It's a non-issue because the same english players that were on your server before will still be there. The issue is if you're stuck in a JP server, there won't be new non-JP players joining your server.

It is hardly a small fee. It is like 2 months worth of sub fees, three for legacy peeps. And you can only transfer once every 90 days.
This isn't about the location of the servers (at least to me). This is about the fact that since they're going to do regional servers from now on, I want to be on a server in my region so the peak time will match my playing time and my friends who are going to be joining will have a better gaming experience oversall that they'll be able to play in the peak hours and be able to meet people speaking the same language as them. Not allowing us to move around at launch likely has little to nothing to do with how much money we have or affecting economies of those worlds. Likely everything to do with a stable launch and allowing new players a chance to actually pick a server they want. Everyone moving their characters around while adding thousands of new characters puts a lot of strain on the servers, not to mention the fact that they likely want to maintain a stable launch environment.
Solution: Chill out and wait for the transfer. It's not going to kill you to stay on a server that may or may not be in your region for a little bit. Also this changes doesn't just affect us, the JP players that get stuck on a server that doesn't have a JP data center are in the same boat.
Regardless, I don't think SE is that idiotic to make things this way. It's most likely that existing servers will become regional servers and be placed in different regions, and existing players will be given the opportunity to change their servers only to existing ones while new players can join either ones. This seems to be the logical way to go and hopefully that's how SE is planning.
So will we stay on current servers for a while? Or do we get a chance to move to other "veteran" servers? Obviously we cant be mixed with the new players but... what if my server is in japan? (not like I care, i get so little lag as is)You will get to play on the server type you want. It just won't be immediate. Just relax, and it will come. I have almost nobody to play with now due to lack of English players on my server its majority of JP only groups. Was looking forward to getting to do endgame but now I am getting told, wait a few months even longer after waiting for the game to come out. I don't have a endgame LS, English shout groups are few and far between. You will get to play on the server type you want. It just won't be immediate. Just relax, and it will come. Just because you have a static group of people playing with does not warrant all other players are the same. Not to mention the population will only get worse since new players will all be the people from whereever the server region is. Some people already have a hard time finding groups in their preferred language and they'll just have a worse experience as time goes on.You will get to play on the server type you want. In addition, I certainly do not wish my friends joining ARR and find it to be a foreign land where everyone speaks a foreign language that they do not understand.
This is kind of disappointing, having to pay and go through the headache of a server transfer... I only hope that once they lift the restriction on current players that they allow us at least one free world transfer of our choice. as long as i get that, i'm kewl.
