    European lag and 2.0: any chance something will change?

    Good morning.
    I'm an European player who just recently got back into the game, and I got an important question.

    I tried the game on its first release, and the only thing that actually made me quit wasn't the unfriendly user interface or the complex game style, but the massive lag I had to suffer from japanese servers, which in the end resulted in an unbearable elapse between each click and something happening thereafter: every dialogue forced me to wait 1-2 seconds to go on.
    I played it during recent free trial period to see if things got better, and they actually did. T
    hat convinced me to pay again monthly bill and I must say it: this game has really an astounding potential, with an admirable unicity in the repetitive world of MMOs and the magic only FF saga can give you.
    Thus, when I play with my buddy in our one-man/one cat party, we still realize having a lot of discrepancy between what he sees and what I see.
    For instance, while he is following me, I see him 15 meters behind me while he is sure to be sticked right onto me (which, being my character a Miqo'te, sure is a good thing for him).
    With levequests, while we are sure being far from our enemies, it often occurrs they melee either one while we see them 20 meters away, making it hard to run away properly in case of danger.

    Now, I'm not saying all this is unplayable, but while this seems to me like a huge problem, I don't see any thread pointing this as one of them.
    And I'm wondering why: maybe it's because everyone grew accostumed with this since FFXI?
    Giving the nature of auto-attack and such in the game, this is not a big issue, but really slows us down in a lot of situations. Plus, I noticed 2.0 version will be a lot more dinamic.

    So, I'm wondering, since I can't find a straight answer to this as well: are there any plans to put a server in Europe, closer to all countries, in a close future? And in US for US people, naturally.
    'cause, while I understand the pleasentry of playing with the whole world together, when this game will get a lot more dinamic, I don't see how will we be able to overcome most difficult challenges (like raids, pvp and such).

    I think not many speak of lag (a part from Ifrit's threads) cause the main issue with servers is disconnections. I would pay double monthly fee to have a stable connection with the servers (i.e. no d/c) and "only" experience lag issues.

    ...this said, I of course would love a server here in EU.

    Finalfantasy14.eu (14EU) : Have you done any tests on the latency for the version 2.0? I suppose that you've noticed that the Garuda Battle has not really been taken on by European players because of latency. French players think that the Ifrit Extreme is impossible to complete due to latency issue, and they are afraid not to be able to do the relic quest before 2.0 hits.

    Yoshida : We have completed the tests and research, and we did find out that the whole issue is based on the access route: there's some packet loss, and this is the cause for the lag European players face. We are going to make sure not only French players, but all European players can have a great experience for the 2.0 version so please wait for an announcement we will be making in the future, we can't address it at the moment but we're definitely taking steps to make sure this will be solved, please be reassured.

    I would say only a little bit of the current lag is because of latency. The bigger bit is the current server structure and client.
    There is a chance we get less lag because they change the server structure and the client.

    If not, there would be still the solution to give NA and JP an artifically lag to get them equal to EU ^^

    There is some issue with EU connections, but the OP describes that issue where in the server-client relationship is faulty. This has something to do with how animations are processed (I don't understand the details) But this will be fixed in 2.0.

    In the unofficial 2.0 video from the GamesCom you can see that there is actually no noticeable lag. Iirc, Yoshi was playing on a JP server. IF this is true, then it will be completly gone.

    hm are you sure? i would more say that they set up a private server client to play the current version of 2.0. at the gamescom.
    apart from that we could see that there is no damn delay when equipping items, using skills while moving etc. which are good news.


    Its not only because of japanese servers like many people said before, its more the programme code and the server structure which we have now, that causes lots of delays and unfluent gameplay experience.
    if it would be japanese players, me as an european would'nt be able to play Phantasy Star Online 2 without any lags and delays.


    its the game client and server structure itself for the biggest reason.
