Instead of Black and White magic spells it should had Bladespells that infuse the weapon with that spell. Then you could heal your party members by smacking them with your sword. That'd be awesome.
That's what I always wanted to see happen in FFXI, and they're only just now getting around to it with Rune Fencer.

Mystic Knight is my all-time favorite job in the series and I hated Tanaka's half-assed tribute to it with enspells.

However, they'd have to make a new class for it because of the armory system. Ironically it'd be easier in XI since you have a spell library that persists across all jobs provided they have the relevant access - you don't have to "equip" each spell as an individual skill (unless you're BLU lol) etc.

Plus Mystic Knight actually does have a very defined role - an anti-mage tank capable of staggering amounts (at least in FF5) of hybrid damage via craziness like Flare & Holy Sword. What they could do, which would be kinda nifty as it uses both the PS1 and GBA names, would be to have a new class using swords unique to it called Sorcerer (the original name for the class in the PS1 port) that has all the sword magic. Then the job would be mystic knight, granting the tank-aspect skills (Shell) and maybe a few unique spells or skills.

They couldn't possibly build this as a job using a GLA as a base the way you can with RDM - for one thing, THM/BLM's best spells are exclusive so you wouldn't be able to cast them on your weapon.
