I'm not saying to go off the poll with 186 people, I'm just saying the poll shows an example of what people want. Please don't blame me for your poor reading comprehension in the future.

SE used a player poll to decide what job to add when they came up with SMN. I'm sure they will use official poll data when they decide what to add next, I'm just saying based on these 186 players, it's fair to make a hypothesis that people also want RDM, and may vote that way in a future official player poll.

You said their next logical choice should be based on that poll.....

Um... the quote is still up there. In two places actually, so it's pretty clear that's not what I said. Is English your first language?

i dont know what should be so exciting new about a red mage. i am happy, that with the SMN a pet system will be introduced.. and that is INDEED something new..

i think the red mage role is not really needed, when there is already a whm/blm in the game. a redmage would just be an extra for the redmage lovers.. who enjoy to do all at once.

Here are a few things to take into consideration. The following is taken from the third (and last) player poll that concluded on march 26th of this year:
    ==Battle System and Combat Classes==
Q1. What type of jobs/classes would you most like to see added? (Up to 2 answers allowed) *
    A. An assassin-type class that uses lethal and stealthy attacks. (ex. Ninja, Thief, etc.)
    B. One that controls and fights alongside a pet or avatar. (ex. Summoner, Puppetmaster, etc.)
    C. A new type of magic-user that uses enfeebling magic and close-range attacks. (ex. Red Mage, etc.)
    D. A new type of fighter that uses enfeebling attacks and inflicts special damage. (ex. Dark Knight, etc.)
    E. An original class unlike any of those described above. (ex. Musketeer, Arithmetician, etc.)
This pole allowed you to pick two choices, the poll results were never posted. I assume this was so that people wouldn't know what jobs they were intending to release.

The following here is taken from a fan translation of the recent interview with Yoshi-P during the 25th anniversary event (the same interview where they announced smn):
Host: But what about people who are already level 50?
Yoshi-p: They can look forward to the high level content we announced, and there are still some unannounced contents, such as raids, and new classes, chocobo raising, and other stuff.
If this is to be interpreted as they have already decided on which jobs/classes they will be releasing first (which is how I interpret it) then based on the jobs offered on the march player poll, and the results of Mijin's poll, it may be a possibility that they are already planning on adding RDM in the very near future, if not with the release of 2.0. Of course this is purely speculative, and we cant be sure that the poll results match (even though they probably do.) However I think this is enough evidence to form a plausible hypothesis that they may already be planing of releasing RDM.

Not saying it's going to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did is all.

The results were released in Letter from the Producer XXIX on 6/4/12

I originally thought the same thing as people had mentioned about RDM being in there for enfeebles, but if your melees are doing proper combos, they add debuffs to the mobs anyways. The only thing we're missing as a spell is a good DoT. Who's to say arcanist won't get that though. We'll just have to wait and see

I prefer more classes for discipline of Magic, honestly. It kinda felt left out from other discipline so far, by only having two variant of spell caster.

For an original class, maybe something like Warlock > Necromancer will do? Instead using staff, they use dolls as their main weapon.

    ... wait, that's Voodoo. (´∀`)

hate to say it but i see them bringing back dark knight or blue mage before red mage.. a red mage might be a jack of all trades.. but they get no master white or black magic making them sub par in that catagory.. and since they were to master enfeebs and enhance magic everyone gets their own enhance abilities to some degree and bard does enhancement... and enfeebs and dots are going to summoner.. i see no need with the current class setup for red mage unless they bring back all elemental armors and weapon spells for damage boosting, preventing, dots, etc.. red mage is useless

I'd rather see a Mystic Knight done right instead of a Red Mage.

Instead of Black and White magic spells it should had Bladespells that infuse the weapon with that spell. Then you could heal your party members by smacking them with your sword. That'd be awesome.

That's what I always wanted to see happen in FFXI, and they're only just now getting around to it with Rune Fencer.

Mystic Knight is my all-time favorite job in the series and I hated Tanaka's half-assed tribute to it with enspells.

However, they'd have to make a new class for it because of the armory system. Ironically it'd be easier in XI since you have a spell library that persists across all jobs provided they have the relevant access - you don't have to "equip" each spell as an individual skill (unless you're BLU lol) etc.

Plus Mystic Knight actually does have a very defined role - an anti-mage tank capable of staggering amounts (at least in FF5) of hybrid damage via craziness like Flare & Holy Sword. What they could do, which would be kinda nifty as it uses both the PS1 and GBA names, would be to have a new class using swords unique to it called Sorcerer (the original name for the class in the PS1 port) that has all the sword magic. Then the job would be mystic knight, granting the tank-aspect skills (Shell) and maybe a few unique spells or skills.

They couldn't possibly build this as a job using a GLA as a base the way you can with RDM - for one thing, THM/BLM's best spells are exclusive so you wouldn't be able to cast them on your weapon.
