I was pretty sad when I unlocked Paladin (my first job) and I was just a Gladiator with a Paladin badge equipped.. I was hoping to level up Paladin with a bunch of new skills

Anywho I wager a lot of this will be fixed/removed/etc at the first level cap increase

WAR does get Second Wind, but WAR has crappy MP so there wouldn't be a reason for it to keep Cure.

Right now my THM has a Wind Brand weapon, so I have Aero on it just for kicks and I can do bleed damage while soloing, but if I want to join a party I'll go as BLM and do my part by sitting back and nuking the monsters while the melee fight. The classes do have a purpose.
When FFXI first came out in north america way back in 2003, I subbed whm on my war while i leveled it to 30, and then I learned how to play.

honestly i dont think it would be that difficult at all for them to do just respec the specific weapons to the jobs and re-distribute skills . the current points system for sub skills could still remain even.

does seem to a tad repetative with THM/BLM shoudl be primary Elemetalists, and CNJ a blend. SO it would need to be very different.

If it is a factual final job then we will ahve to wait see and hope it brings balance to the game.

personally, i prefer my THM over blm. theres always enough BLM's that go with me in a party, so when i can let them handle the 2 spells (2) that i dont have, my dmg and aoe benefits far outweigh having the con of not being able to wear my af ;P

all they need to do is double the amount of JOB skills we get from 5 to 10 then the classes & jobs wont all feel the same, we already have very limited sub class skills we can use. they can also change WS slots to job WS's. simple fixes and they wont have to re-write the classes again.

I personally don't care for the class system and wouldn't cry if it went away. There are far less situations that you'd use classes for than jobs.

Would probably take quite a bit of effort. Each of the jobs have a pre-requisite quest to unlock them, so you'd have to have x amount (or all) of the jobs available from the start with the rest being unlocked through quests around 25-30, like the advanced jobs in FFXI. The rest of the mechanics could stay the same; learn the former class abilities and traits at their established levels, and do the job quests for stronger abilities and AF equipment.

Obviously people with all 50s won't be affected by this, but this would affect newer players.

Doing this would make it easier to introduce new jobs like Dark Knight where their identity won't suffer being forced to be tied to a brand new class or an existing one. (like they've mentioned they want to try to do)

If they would just balance the content around the abilities that each job can have available, classes wouldn't be necessary in this respect. I'm not saying things need to be made easier, but without having a THM in the Darnus fight, there's no way a group of full jobs can survive without having previously farmed lunar curtains.

I think classes just create an identity crisis for their job counterparts. It would be way easier if they just scrapped classes and introduced jobs on their own, but I think the dev team is too invested in the armory system right now. We probably won't see any radical changes to its core until another expansion, if ever at all.

It must be a pain for the devs too to handle this class/job thing. I would bet that keeping this system was never a unanimous decision amongst SE. It was most likely decided over a cost/benefit (very high implementation cost for nothing new added to the game) argument and i'm sure getting rid of that is still on a table somewhere. Just too costly for now.

i quit this game for 2 years, come back, briefly read up on the changes they're making... and even i understand that the class/job system is in place because the intent is to, over time, have multiple jobs stemming from each class. it was never intended to be class > job in some completely straight line. instead the class branches out into several jobs. so you level the class to gain access to the different jobs attached to it.

and furthermore, in *most cases* since classes aren't as limited to abilities they can choose, they are a bit better for solo play than jobs. if square just automatically morphed a class into the job that follows and that's the end of it, people would have a really difficult time soloing on jobs without survival-type abilities.
