In the future, we will see.

It sounds more like you are speaking through your hat and actually only know very little about it.Based on the current skills that exist in the game, I don't see how it will be beneficial to play Arcanist over Summoner. The class system is really pointless to me. As far as I'm aware the only class currently that has any utility over it's respective job is Archer. I don't ever think it's worth lowering your dmg/skills to drop Blm for Thm just to get raise, and I can see the same issue existing with Smn/Arc.
The other potential problem I see with the class system is when they want to add more jobs to the game. Say for example they want to branch Dark Knight off Gladiator sometime in the future. Dark Knight will have 90% of the same skills as Paladin... Not only that it forces Dark Knight, or any other classes they want to branch off Gladiator to be a tank.
Idk why they don't just get rid of the class system and stick with the traditional approach to the jobs. It would be less restrictive, cleaner, and just more logical. several skills isn't enough to distinguish between two different jobs in the future, and giving up your job skills make it almost never worth playing the class instead.
For starters, jobs and classes are equally useful. I find it much easier to solo on classes than jobs and the opposite is also true with parties.
I believe that both are fulfilling their respective roles:
- classes bring a more varied style of play, aimed at solo'ers and casual gamers;
- jobs are highly specialized in order to bring defined roles in a party and enhance party play (also reduce newbies uncertainty when it comes to partying, they have their roles handed to them -- it also appease some more hardcore gamers)
I personally prefer the versatility of classes more, but I do greatly appreciate the focus of jobs on party play as well.
I sincerely hope they keep tweaking the system (making classes more versatile and customize-able, while remaining powerful + enhancing the focus on the roles for jobs) and keep both classes/jobs without favouring one or the other.
As for arcanist and summoner... why don't you just wait until some more information is released about them?
We know so little about them that nobody is entitled to have an opinion so far.
So, wait.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)

As I said I expect them to have plans for the class system, 1.xx was built around classes in general, whereas ARR will be build around the hybrid system, if SE wanted to show us what they had been planning all along for the hybrid system it would have required a lot of time consuming changes. See how ARR pans out then ask for a change if its still not working. Complaining about it now, after 1.xx is almost over and they are getting close to the ARR alpha is way too late, if its such a problem why not complain months sooner?

This..so much this. I have never used a class again since jobs came out and probably never will =XI think this is the last existing problem with FFxiv.
They're trying to hold onto this class/job system that just doesn't work. Many of us playing, hate it.
IMO, keep all the current Jobs, remove the Classes and replace the Classes with such Jobs like DNC, SAM, NIN, BLU, THF, SCH, RDM, etc.
I couldn't agree more. All it does (from my experience) is people try to play the classes where the jobs are much more appropriate in the situation just so they can wear the armor. 9/10 times they don't even have it melded..which makes me further suspect they are just playing the class so they can wear that class specific armor....They lost me when they started creating class-only weapons and armor.
/facepalm
Even when my BF and I duo stuff...we always use jobs.
Well I hate to say it but I've played long enough to level every class dol dom doh dow in the game to 50, and I've done most of the content the game has to offer so I feel like I know something about it. If your argument is that we need classes for new players, I don't agree. FFXI does just fine with it's job system.
I've been complaining about the class system since day one. In fact, I only started playing for real after they added jobs. The reason why I'm "complaining" now, or the reason I made this thread as you should say, is because as I've already mentioned I wanted to see how many people shared my opinion.

At the moment, I do kinda agree with you. 95% of the time I will be on a job, not a class and I think that's how it is for most people.
However, I like to think there's a reason why they decided to keep them, and hopefully it will all make sense when they finally let us know the specifics of ARR.
aaaaw, klaus went to make a fake "Noomy" character & do funny things on "Masamune" with it.... ; ;
Oooh he sooo mad right now...lol
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
