    Character animations

    While the new casting and spell animations in the trailer looked great, is anyone else disappointed by the overall animation changes? One of my favorite things about XIV were the realistic and grounded character animations. You moved and stopped with momentum, characters would turn and face things properly, and it all felt really good. The gameplay videos look as if they've thrown all of that way and replaced it with a standard MMO movement system (With the typical, really awkward back pedaling motion) and everything looks choppy and weightless

    Perhaps it's simply alpha footage, but I have a feeling this was an intended design change

    of course it is, they meant to remove animation lock. Well, they removed by a huge chuck.
    Also, again with this back pedaling ? It's already in the game. If you use target lock and move backward, character back pedal

    In that instance, yes, and it's appropriate and well animated. In ARR, it's the default backwards movement, and it looks awkward since you move at the same speed as moving forward

    yup not a fan of the animation in the new trailer but i think i can live with it.

    like i said before it's PRE alpha, yes they have trailers and all that good stuff but you have remember they made a ton of changes in alpha/beta in 1.0. CHANGES WILL BE MADE. matter in fact have you played 2.0? maybe, it must just be uncomfortable to play like that. maybe that cool one-two step makes a difference when fighting mobs, then people will blame animation lock/lag because of it. Sorry I understand all the fuss about fluid movement but if it makes the gameplay more fluid as a whole better than i'm all for it.

    Not a fan of the new animation. Alpha - pre alpha, I think this is how the animation to be...they're making gameplay videos I think it's finalized. Hope we get an option to change.
