Soloing on blm in XI is the same thing i do here. Spell > sleep > spell > sleep > spell. XI had ton of spells that was pretty much useless.

No bind, gravity? never checked elemental weaknesses and cast the apropriate spell (XIV it's kind of pointless because your only single target power combo is thunder regardless of resists) at best you can avoid thunder resistant mobs and seek out thunder fearing foes, but we all know that's a far cry from the flexabillity blackmage had in XI.

No need to bind or grav if your sleep was gonna land everytime. You can bind and grav stuff in this game as well ppl only know how to play one way. Also the onlything you needed to check in XI for ele weakness was to see if it resisted thunder or ice cause even if a mob was weak to lets say earth both of those spells did more dmg.No bind, gravity? never checked elemental weaknesses and cast the apropriate spell (XIV it's kind of pointless because your only single target power combo is thunder regardless of resists) at best you can avoid thunder resistant mobs and seek out thunder fearing foes, but we all know that's a far cry from the flexabillity blackmage had in XI.

Not if you actually had decent gear sets like i did. then most often the element weakness spell always did alot more dmg for me and sometimes even saved me MP. But then again i stopped playing blm at one point and started using pup which seems to oddly ignore alot of those problems entirely. No need to bind or grav if your sleep was gonna land everytime. So you pretty much decided to not play Black-mage properly then? Casting elemental spells on the proper monsters especially when taking weather and the elemental day into consideration could get you much more damage than just blindly casting Ice/thunder.No need to bind or grav if your sleep was gonna land everytime. Gravity/Bind were your standby skills while waiting for sleep cooldowns and to avoid terrible moments if/when your sleep was resisted after you woke the mob up.
Of course I only speak of XI pre 99 playing blm properly at 75 took some time and knowledge to do properly. There was alot to take into consideration to make your glass cannon worth that party slot, or to get mad exp solo.

No it wouldn't any good geared blm who played XI will tell you that casting Ice on a mob who is weak to earth is much better idea. There was no need to bind or grav a mob when you could kill it in 2 cast.So you pretty much decided to not play Black-mage properly then? So again, you never fought much worth fighting if it died in 2 casts. Now if you were burning Beastmaster pets that's one thing.

Did you even play XI? Everyone who played blm could see from the start that thunder/Ice was leagues ahead of All the other spells its a reason why ppl merited those spells only. There is no point of casting Stone IV on a mob who is weak to earth when it does 900 dmg when you can cast Thunder/Ice for 1.2k dmg+

exactly!.... blm is so bare bones boring in its current state it lacks versitility and viability in many situations. The Elemental weakness system in 14 sucks, the bare minimum spell choices for blm sucks (along w/ lack of a plethora of spell choices...earth,wind,water,ice,dark{bio/poison},fire,thunder,) blm should have access to all those types of spells. Maybe keep water as a whm spell but mobs that are weak to water should be weak to ice inaffect too. I understand that in 11 some mobs where strong in general too mage nukes but blm only having 3 elemental choices in 14 is lame and too restricting. I was just thinking the otherday that the class/job system is really a hinderance more than a help to the armoury system. We need to move forward from ff11 in some ways and build upon it and the amoury system seems to just place restraints on everything in the end. All classes/jobs in 14 should have a multitude of skills/spells to choose from for a multitude of situations. The skillbar in general hinders choices as it places a cap on # of skills. Unless in 2.0 you can have 10 skillbars would just be a damn clutterfest. Maybe skills that combo should now share the same skill slot and become chained skills that trigger eachother upon use at least. This would free up alot of space for future add-ons. OMG wall of text.No bind, gravity? never checked elemental weaknesses and cast the apropriate spell (XIV it's kind of pointless because your only single target power combo is thunder regardless of resists) at best you can avoid thunder resistant mobs and seek out thunder fearing foes, but we all know that's a far cry from the flexabillity blackmage had in XI.
