Installation on Windows 7 requires a Vista patch?

    Hi,

I'm trying to re-install the game onto my laptop that's spent the last 2 months with customer service trying to get fixed. I'm having troubles installing because it keeps telling me I need a Windows Vista update on my Windows 7 operating system.

Steps: I put my cd in and run ffxivsetup.exe
It asks "Please select a language." (I choose English and click Accept.)
It pops up a window saying "Installation requires Windows Vista Service Pack 2. Please carry out a Windows update. (the only button available is "Cancel")

My computer is up to date with all windows 7 updates, but I obviously can't install the Vista patches onto my computer.

Any advice on what to do?

    try this before install

My computer > cd drive > explore > setup.exe > right click > properties > compatability settings > Windows 7> press the button that says "Change for all users" or something > uncheck the tick box

"change for all users" did the trick, all worked. Thank you!

oh wow thank you. worked for me too. how dumb that it'd be automatically defaulted to "run only as windows vista" mode.
