It will be scenario 1. It WILL be laggy, and you WILL crash.

I have an option for Scenario 4:
My thoughts revolve around the knowledge that our character data will be saved from Nov. 1 but we will play until Nov. 11. I suspect that, following the Nov. 1 back-up, the world will begin to experience the calamity that is coming. When we play over the next 10 days, we will not be accessing the world we have all known, but a world in the midst of crisis. I suspect all activity will revolve around constant open-world engagements much like the imperial attacks outside the three cities from a few months back.
We will be playing out the dying days of Eorzea, and the end will somehow lead into all heroes being sequestered away as described in the ARR trailer. This would mean that players would have 10 days to log in and see the calamity in action. 10 days to get involved with whatever storyline is ongoing, and 10 days to do things that will have no impact on your character when the game reboots as 2.0 later in the winter.
This sounds like fun to me, but then it's coming from my imagination :P
That's certainly an interesting idea, Mordain, but then any rewards or achievement for "being there at the end" wouldn't be possible as the data wouldn't get carried over to ARR.
If I had to guess, I'd go with this.I have an option for Scenario 4:
