    crash

    Hello,

I'm experiencing a crash that only happens with my main character.

Here is what I've already tested:

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled FINAL FANTASY XIV.

Deleted the Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV folder to reset all local settings.

Installed the game on a different SSD.

Performed a clean NVIDIA driver installation.

    Disabled overlays and third-party software.

Verified Windows integrity (SFC found no issues).

Other games work perfectly without any crashes.

    Important finding:

I can create a new character and enter the game without any problems.

However, when I select my main character, the loading screen starts and then the game closes to desktop with no error message.

    Windows Event Viewer always reports:

    Application: ffxiv_dx11.exe

    Faulting module: ntdll.dll

    Exception code: 0xc0000374

Since a brand new character works correctly, it seems the issue is specific to my main character (or the data loaded when entering the world with that character), rather than the game installation or my PC.

    Someone can help me?

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We appreciate your reaching out to us about the concern you are experiencing with your main character and the game crashing. It's great that you have tried some basic troubleshooting steps to help with the error you are having, and we understand how important a smooth gaming experience is.

There are a number of situations that can cause the error you are describing. Please try the following troubleshooting methods in order to resolve the issue:

    - Check to make sure that your PC meets the minimum system requirements. Be aware that integrated graphics cards (e.g. Intel HD graphics) are not supported. If so, try adjusting various graphical settings, resolutions and switching between windowed and fullscreen to see if this affects the issue.

Here's the link for the Final Fantasy XIV System Requirements for your reference: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/system_requirements/

    - Update your Windows Operating System using Windows Update. Make sure to install any optional updates as these aren't installed automatically.

    - Update/reinstall your graphics card drivers (preferably a clean install)

    - Disable all programs/overlays running in the background

    - Make sure your anti-virus software has the appropriate exceptions for FINAL FANTASY XIV

    - Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your GPU or CPU. Check that any fans or vents aren't being blocked.

    - Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system (Reshade, Nvidia Freestyle, etc.). Also, remove any custom configurations made using driver-level programs (Nvidia Control Panel, Radeon Crimson).

    - Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.

    - Perform a clean boot by doing the following: Open the Task Manager and select the 'Start Up' Tab. disable everything here and restart the PC.

Should the issue still persist after attempting all the listed troubleshooting, we advise that you reinstall the game (make sure to remove or rename the 'Final Fantasy XIV' folder in the 'My Documents' > 'My Games' folder). You can re-download the game client at the following link. : http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na

We recommend that the game be installed on the C: drive, as installing it on any drive that is not the default may cause more problems.

If the issue is still present after the reinstallation of the game, please respond to this post with a FINAL FANTASY XIV System Report. On the game launcher, select 'Config' option and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

We hope this helps and thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

One thing I didn't mention before is that I've been playing FINAL FANTASY XIV for years without any issues. The last time I played was in February of this year, and everything worked perfectly. The problems only started recently.

I had also already tried everything on that list. I've reinstalled the game and restored the game data about three times already.

    This is the system report

I'm not sure if this will help you, but it's worth a try.

You say a new character works perfectly?
    Then try the following:
Create a new character. Set up the UI, your keybinds, and everything else the way you want it.
Then create a macro! It doesn’t need to have any text—just save a macro—this will be important in a moment!
Then open the FFXIV folder. You’ll find it in: Documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
You’ll know you’ve found the right folder because there’s a folder for EACH of your characters starting with the string: FFXIV_CHR004.
Now, in the field at the top right next to the magnifying glass, type the following: MACRO.DAT and let it search for the file!

It will now show you which macro you created most recently. And that’s for your new character. Right-click and select “Open File Path.”
Now copy everything using Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+C

Since you don’t know which of these other folders contains your main character’s files, you’ll either have to back up everything here FIRST or take a risk. Open each of the existing folders, and use Ctrl+V to copy the files into them, choosing to replace all existing files.

After that, your main character should be working again.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

I also tried deleting my old character's local data folder and letting the game generate a new one upon login, but the game still crashes.

I'm afraid I have to admit that I'm out of the loop on that one—unfortunately.
But I honestly hope that support can help you out quickly here and that you can get back into the game with your main character soon.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I have already upgraded to Windows 11, but the issue is still happening. The game continues to crash with my main character. The crash occurs while loading into the game, and it returns me to the desktop. I have already reinstalled the game, updated to Windows 11, reinstalled my GPU drivers, and tried several troubleshooting steps, but the problem persists.
