    About rushing through things

    Hey guys,

I am a newbie around here. I tried to make my own way through by doing only the main scenario quests and the main mechanical side quests marked by a + sign, but I do not try them, just unlocking. Is this a useful way to learn all the important mechanics, or is there anything else that you think I might be missing? Sometimes I feel like losing myself while trying to solve things.

Hope that you do not curse me, world/game is huge!

    Welcome to Eorzea!

Quests with a '+' sign beside them just means it adds something to the game, which can be as varied as unlocking a dungeon or trial, or optional content like PvP, or even giving you something like a mount. Side quests are still worthwhile to do as they're useful for levelling your main class (and other classes).

Of course when you do them is up to you, although there are a couple of exceptions to that -

The 'hard mode' Primal battles for Ifrit, Titan and Garuda are required for progression during A Realm Reborn's post story main scenario (as well as the Titan battle specifically being needed to be done later on again during Heavensward's post story quests and Shadowbringers' main story quests).

The initially optional Sunken Temple of Qarn dungeon is required to be completed as part of a ARR post main scenario quest (even if you have completed the dungeon, you need to do it again as part of the main scenario quest).

The Crystal Tower raids and their associated quests, which although were added back early in A Realm Reborn, are required for main scenario progression much later in the game (it's not a spoiler, but it's during Shadowbringers's main scenario quests, specifically the 'patch' storyline quests where Crystal Tower completion is required). But when you do them is up to you as long as you have completed them before Shadowbringers' story).

The 'Class Role' quests begun with the Shadowbringers expansion are required for progression in Shadowbringers' main scenario (you don't need to do all of them for all roles, just need to complete one for the role of whatever class or Job you happen to be at the time).

These are the ones I can think of but there may be other cases of completion of formerly optional content being later made a requirement for main scenario progression.

Other than that, all other non-main scenario quests are entirely optional.

And don't worry, I don't think anyone will ridicule you for asking for help here, it's what it's meant for! We were all new once and also, you never stop learning so even us old hands here still are learning things we didn't know, and it should go without saying the game is always having new things added which expands it even more.

Since I was myself new to the game about one year ago, I share about 2 things that I believe important:
    - Start crafting disciplines immediately. They're a long work. Do a bit here and there until you join a Grand Company. From there, use the daily supply & provisioning (give priority to those with bonus) to level up crafters fairly easy and fast.
    - This game exists since decades: its content is enormous! Don't try to catch same status than veterans: It's a battle lost in advance. Take it easy with only one rule: Keep the fun.

Generally, don't rush. This game has a concept that doesn't allow to go fast. Everything is locked behind packages of actions that take a while to complete. If you try to force that concept to go faster, the feeling of grinding will rapidly overwhelm you. You will end upset and frustrated. Rather avoid that.
