Gathering Icons on Minimap

Can someone explain me how do these icons work?

Why do I never see a mining spot icon? Why do I see a ??? logging point on a tree and don't see it on the minimap, while I still see other logging spots?

I really don't understand how this works.

If you talking about the icon in the mini map that for sub class for each DOL for mining,logging and fishing you don't get icon you have to use the action that tell you where the close logging,mining/fishing point is.

The blue gathering icons represent persistent offhand nodes. they may move a few yalms when gathered from, but they will always be there.

there is a 3 node reset pattern also
meaning after you gather from 2 more nodes of the same DoL, the first one re-spawns.
most all the quarry blue nodes that you DONT see are under ground in caves
so once you start going into the cave, you start to see them better

I really don't understand the purpose myself.
We use icons to locate things, but why would anyone need help finding those offhand nodes that are way out in the open and never move more than a step away? #wasteofmapspace

The point is that you don't have any skills that will reveal off hand nodes. With the main hand nodes you have all the DoL skills that will tell you how far away and in which direction they are.
