Tossing the currect materia system for 2.0 for new one

    Toss this idea out here...

Matter Melding (randomly chance) gives slots on a price of armor if it doesn't work the gear breaks. Can only do this with Melding Matter. (DoH only) Gear can max any any number of slots.

Combining materia is when you have many types of materia and you combine them into one (Each Materia maxes at 5 combines) Just like melding materia can break.

Once you have 1 powerful materia you can equip it & remove it from any gear you want.

Combing many Materia at once will Huge Materia a level based on the stats of each materia fused within it. Lv4 Str+20 5= Huge Materia Lv20 STR+100

This system will allow us to use those useless poison resist materia's by making stronger Materias and allow players to swap them whenever they need for some special battles.

    1.0~2.0 change over.

Players with 3 Materia melded on 1 gear will get 3 Slotted piece of armor and 3 combined materia on the first slot of that gear. Depending on a players total materia it will convert to most numbered materia.

Main require isn't creating the slots on the armor but creating a powerful materia to use.

This is more of a FF7 Crisis Core meets FF14 Materia system.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:

Its not gear swaping like marcos.... Its materia swap pre=boss or raid. If you dont like swaping why level so many jobs to swap?

I dont see the materia system being reworked from the ground up given it was a system introduced by Yoshi-Ps own team. That said its probably one of the worst systems implemented into the game.

An equipable materia system akin to FF7/CC seems the most appropriate for an MMO due to gearsets for different raids. The way FF7 changed the nature of materia rather than the current way in 14 where materia do not interract with the gear or with each other. There was a very long thread in the past about using the FF7 system. Naturally it didnt get a rep response.

One argument against equippable materia is how does that help crafters. Well, I dont agree the current system helps crafters or the economy. The only people who bother with multi melds tend to be people who are self sufficient and engage in the whole process from start to finish so there is no economy involved, no one serious about trying 10 or 20 equipment in a row is going to buy that equipment from the wards, they will farm the materials, make the item, perhaps even spiritbond the materia. Even under the current system where multi melds are on sale in the wards they are more than likely priced 20-100 times more than non materia gear so of course no one is buying them..

There is a fundamental problem with the materia system as it is, in that someone will seriously not bother with certain types of materia when other materias are much more useful for wider purposes. eg will a melee use poison resist materia for the off chance u get poisoned v strength materia which will help your damage output 100% of the time. This will probably be more so in v2 when stats are more pronounced.

A remake of the system could include equipable materia and materia fusion like the OP suggests. Crafters should be pushed away from "melding materia to gear" to instead "making materia slots in existing gear". Give crafters choices such as "synth to make an extra independent slot" "synth to make a joined slot but you cant make anymore slots after that".

That way we can fill up the wards with equipment with 1 to 5 slots, instead of filling up our inventories with ranks of materia 1 to 5.

This is wrong and misinformed, Materia is currently the only thing that effectively keeps our economy running.

Check how many felt bracers, felt gaskins, and other famous meldable slots sells daily.
Check how many major materias sells daily, they are pretty much the only thing that is always on high demand aside from foods.

People do buy stuff directly from wards because you make more money sitting down crafting/meldding than the time you spent farming mats on your own.
