One-Shot Story Build-Up to World Changes

One thing I personally think is making this game a success is the whole story and build up around Dalamud and 2.0. I seriously think this is a successful formula of delivery when planning and releasing new content -

    Gradual changes to in-game world
    small updates with new content
coherent story that builds towards the release
and unique content that can't be obtained once the new release hits.

I want the game to keep doing that, even after 2.0.

I want at least some of the stories I experience in game to be a non-repeatable thing. So we can look back and say, "Yeah, I was there."

    Discuss.

While I do agree that it's a cool way of doing things, MMO companies rarely want to invalidate some amount of their work by making it no longer accessible.

If someone says "this game doesn't have enough content", the developers will always wonder... what if we hadn't pulled the kill switch on those things... then they would have a little more to do.

A valid point, but on the other hand, being able to repeat or have access to everything the game offered at one point cheapens the events.

I'm not saying that a ton of stuff be one-time-only deals. I think it should be limited to small, unique events, or massive world-wide occurrences (zombie plague, anyone?).

Like Holidays. Only, it's not a holiday. And you won't see it next year.

I am enjoying the current non-repeatable content, but to be honest, its made me play the game more than I really ought to, and I can't keep this up forever. I do not want other 'once in a lifetime' content (seasonal events are enough), because I want to be able to put down the game for a while and not feel punished when I come back. Its things like missing out on more and more that make me end up never coming back at all. I want to do everything, but I want to do everything at my own pace.
