So what was SE's reason for not going with an Auction House?

making gil is kind of a pain, took me almost 2 hours just to sorts out retainers inventory, then need to check out of all that mess what could sell the best, check price, put them on the market... the system is just not good

    Hey Rockman,

Don't forget to unlock the ability to spiritbond and equip some items to spiritbond while you're leveling/farming. I recommend any belt.

Alchemist is a good thing for making gil. In about an hours worth of work I put up lots of different things for sale and all of it sold in a little over an hour and I made 1.5~ mil. Much better than mining IMO since everyone and their mother does it and -most- hot items for ALC you can farm with DoW/M easily or get for cheap from NPCs. Most profitable item would be Elixers (depending on your server I would guess), on mine they go for 45k each and they sell super fast.

Elixirs are great for selling, but when they sell 1-10 at a time on my server, the benefiting seller is a single person as they stack up to 99, so you end up having a lot of people undercutting and only sometimes do you get the cash. On the mining end of things, Cobalt Ore - at least 17 stacks of 99 Cobalt Ore sold within 10 minutes on my server, and that's not out of the ordinary. ^_^; It's easier to make money because you don't have to constantly undercut when people are just buying that amount.

I do think mining is a little more time consuming than crafting, though, if at least during the early levels.

Well I guess it does depend on server. I don't really have to undercut (I just set the same price as the lowest price usually) and they don't ever sit for more than a day.
