CPU Running Hot Since Patch 7.5 Release

My game has been making my CPU unbearably hot since the release of patch 7.5.
I have a Intel 12th gen i7-12700f and it reaches up to 98C while playing ff14. it doesn't matter where I go, or what settings I change, it always sits in the 92-98C range. It does not do this on any other game. I have tried turning graphics down, downscaling resolution, and setting player visibility and range to minimal, with no positive results.
I fear that my CPU is actively at risk every time I boot up the game now.

I just want to play my favorite game without fear of the deterioration of my PC.

This game continues to run poorly and its not just CPU temps. Its the GPU as well

I can play Warframe with max settings at 120 FPS at like 70 celcius on my gpu with my fans at like 60-70%

Meanwhile just to stand in a major city in FFXIV I have to turn my fans way up to 80%+ to keep my CPU cool. Its not much better in a duty either

If your CPU is running hot after Patch 7.5, it just means the game is working your processor harder than before. It’s completely normal for temps to spike when you're in heavy-traffic zones like alliance raids or bustling main cities.

    What This Behavior Means

Crowd Rendering: FFXIV is heavily CPU-bound, and rendering other players’ character models, gear, and spell effects is handled entirely by your processor.
Patch 7.5 Workloads: Many players (especially those with AMD Ryzen processors like the 7800X3D) have reported a noticeable 10°C to 15°C temperature spike in open, populated areas since Patch 7.5 dropped, which immediately cools off when panning the camera away from crowds.
System Strain: If your CPU is running hot, your thermal paste might be drying out, or your cooler's fans might need cleaning. However, if temperatures sit under 85°C, this is considered a safe and standard thermal range for modern gaming CPUs.

    How to Reduce CPU Temperatures

Limit Your Framerate: FFXIV can cause chips to run hot when running at excessively high frame rates. Cap your FPS in the FFXIV System Settings (Display Settings) to match your monitor's refresh rate.
Lower Object Quantity: Reduce the maximum number of character models drawn on screen at once to ease the burden on your CPU. You can adjust this setting under System Config > Other.
Clean Hardware & Re-paste: Dust accumulation inside your desktop case or laptop vents drastically restricts airflow. If your PC is older, check if the CPU heatsink is seated correctly and consider re-applying thermal paste.

I hope these initial steps help resolve the issue. If you are still experiencing trouble, please let me know so we can explore further solutions.

Most often than not, you have to cap your FPS below your monitor's refreshrate with third party sofware like the Nvidia App.

Playing FFXIV at 120fps on my PC runs abnormally hot (the refresh rate I have my monitor currently set to). The temperature drops massively just going down to 100fps.

Most modern monitors run at 120fps if not higher refresh rates.

prior to 7.5 it ran around 60-65C, and every other game runs fine at 144fps. This is an only an issue as of 7.5, and is not related to crowd density, as even in Porta Decumana its peaking at 95C. being away from crowds does nothing, and still steadily increases even while in inn rooms from ARR

The game recently upgraded its graphics and it will use a lot of PC resources even with current PC specifications, the game can still cause a rise in your PC temperatures and we recommend to please do what you can to minimize the heat.

Please make sure that your PC fans are working properly to allow adequate ventilation around your PC or look into liquid coolers, etc.

If you are still experiencing trouble, please let me know so we can explore further solutions.

7950x3d here. Same issue. It is not just crowded areas, I am getting 15-20 degree upticks when in forgotten springs in thanalan.

Something changed in 7.5 and has caused major regression with certain chipsets it seems. Mostly AMD ryzen 7 series. Its not cooling, within seconds after either turning away from whatever is causing the issue or closing the game temperature drops multiple degrees per sec very quickly. AIO is working perfectly fine and thermal paste is great. ( checked just in case although I have not been having issues in other games regarding cooling )

After testing with a few monitoring programs it seems anytime there is a player on screen, just one or two and some other unknown effect certain chips are being almost locked in boost mode.

I used to be able to run ff14 capped at 120, nearly everywhere and my average temps were 60-65c. May dip in frontlines and alliance raids and of course limsa. But we are talking 30 percent performance hits since 7.5 for certain chips , capped out boosts when there really shouldnt be a need and a huge regression in temperatures.

No way the 2 huge reddit threads and now third technical support thread since 7.5 discussing this issue is a coincidence and we all need to check our cooling situations.

I am going to speculate that a lot of people don't even realize this is happening as they cap the game at 60 and any overhead they lost isnt felt and any temperatures gained are not noticed. I'd like to add even if I cap the game at 60, the temperature gain is felt but not where near my Tjmax for my cpu. I didnt struggle in the least bit prior to 7.5.

I logged off prior to 7.5 fine , 55-65c, 61c averages at well over 100 fps no issue. Logged on the day of 7.5 and I had gained nearly 20 degrees and struggling to maintain in Tuli.

I have been able to use program lasso to shut off half my CCD0 l3 cores, and now run the game on every other core. I lost some performance but got my temps under control that way. Setting ff14 to use every other l3 core in the 7950x3d is my bandaid solution.

Fun fact if I set the game to run on two l3 cores right next to each other no matter how many cores in total I enable temps spike up , same performance loss. But if I spread them out seems I can maintain most of my pre 7.5 performance but improve my temps by over 12 degrees.

Also, my obligatory ''No other games runs like this'' For what its worth.

Appreciate all the responses by the mod team!! Hope this gets eyes on and fixed in an upcoming patch.
